A common trope in fiction is the woman who disguises herself as a boy or man. Often in an attempt to prove she is as good a warrior as any man. So my question is, have you ever been fooled when seeing this on screen?

I was slightly surprised by the gender reveal in Pitch Black the first time I saw it.

But other than that, never really.

I remember watching my first Steven Seagal movie, and thinking "that has to be a woman", but I was wrong.

It's too common of a movie convention now. If the person on the motorcycle takes a while to remove the helmet, it's a female.

Or the airplane pilot, or the skydiver, or the astronaut, or the welder. (Cue Flashdance music)

i totally knew the Witch-King would be killed by Eowyn in ROTK when she disguised herself as a bloke and there was all that 'no man can kill me' bollocks.

never read the book, i just knew. it's like the 'no weapon forged can kill the monster' BS they used in Buffy and Return to Castle Wolfenstein and what kills them is no medieval sword, it's a freaking rocket launcher.
