hi,
i love all star trek series..just finished TNG.loved it.im on season 6 of voyager..loving it..on season 3 of ds9 and i got mixed feelings..is it just me or is the bajoran stories getting so predictable and annoying..i love the episodes thats not about bajoran..or bajoran principles..or bajoran prophets etc etc..

i know ds9 is set near bajoran but its getting so annoying kira and her bajoran this and that..

is it like this the whole way through?every second episode about bajoran as if it is im going to stop watching it?

any info or even your thoughts appreaciated guys

By the third season, you should already be seeing a greater focus on all manner of intergalactic politics. However, Bajor will always be a big part of the series, so I recommend you develop an appreciation for it. Events occur on a massive scale, and Bajor often provides a more intimate, personal lens for experiencing them. One of DS9's greatest strengths is the way it weaves the stories of the very small and the very large together.

I agree with you that Bajorans are boring & uninteresting and annoying.

Thankfully, starting in Season 3 and on they begin to drop Bajoran stories like a hot potato more and more, and by Season 7 Bajoran stories have for the most part been completely abandoned in favor of much better things like the Dominion (which is easily the best and most epic story any Trek show has ever done).

In other words, the worst is behind you since you already got through the first two seasons which are by far the most Bajoran-heavy in the whole series.

So stick with it, you have no idea about all the non-Bajoran entertainment greatness in store for you if you do. The Season 2 finale "The Jem'Hadar" is a much better indication and more representative of the non-Bajoran greatness that the series becomes in the later seasons than the Bajoran episodes of S1 and S2 are.

Besides, you could always read an episode list of DS9 which provide one-sentence summaries of each episode. Just skip the Bajoran-centric ones and you're golden.

The early seasons of Deep Space Nine are, typically, the least well received by people (I actually didn't mind them and they were among the first season sets I bought). The storylines changed a bit after the end of Season Three though and the series took on a broader scope that focused more on the Alpha and Beta Quadrants than just Bajor. Actually Season Seven did have a Bajoran focus in the final arc, but the way it builds up you enjoy it more than those in the beginning.

I don't like Bajorans much either and DS9 is my favourite Star Trek series. Some of the Bajoran episodes are pretty good though.

Hate to agree, but the Bajorans could, at times, be boring and pedantic. But it was a rare opportunity to look at a society as the Federation made overtures for it to join, and the reaction of both the Federation and Bajoran people to that prospect. The other fascinating thing was how the Bajorans treated Sisko as the Emissary, and how it changed him as well, to the point he wanted to retire on Bajor. And the Prophets play a big role in the stories involving the Dominion, the despotic alliance from the Gamma Quadrant. So samantha31, let us know what you think of the Dominion and the show as you continue to watch it. -- RR

The Bajorans grew on me after a while, but I can definitely appreciate anyone who has a difficult time with that. It just takes a little time for the whole thing to pick up.

I must be one of the few that loved the bajoran stories cause they were different from the usual trek fare of no conflict and no religion.Bajoran stories had all of these .

The Magnificent Ferengi is one of my favorite episodes in Deep Space Nine's entire run.

I thought they were rather horrible, except for in episodes not focusing on them. Quark and Nog as individual characters were fine. Throw Ferengi in with Klingons or Vorta and they're suddenly funny rather than tremendously annoying when surrounded only by their own kind.

Yep, they're funny with Vorta.

Also funny with Klingons: The House of Quark.

Also funny with hew-mons: Little Green Men.

But definitely keep watching. S1 is a slog, S2 gets better, by S3 the Bajoran stuff has been back-burnered and the real story begins. You have to watch the show over the long haul to really appreciate the intricate story arcs and character growth. Kira, for instance, is an entirely different person by the end of the show.

I concur with what's been said. DS9 is my favorite series, but I had a hard time latching on to it during its initial run because of the Bajoran political and religious themed episodes. But by the end, a lot of those issues, which seem tedious during the first go-round, will come into focus and you may even find yourself going back to refresh yourself with them.

Keep going with DS9, you're right on the cusp of things getting REALLY good!

I thought the Bajorans were one of the best developed Trek races (here is an explanation why) and the episodes focusing on them great - especially those that had Bajorans and Cardassians interact with each other, but those two races, IMO, always made each other more interesting. Bajorans and Cardassians were what kept my interest going early on the series, when I was bored by the standalone space-disease of the week-episodes, Ferengi episodes, Bashir episodes, most Dax episodes, Klingon episodes..

I agree. The Ferengi - particularly Quark - were great when they were interacting with the other, non-Ferengi characters; but their own episodes were very bad. The exceptions were those that put them up against the Klingons, Humans or Vorta, as Temis observed.
