DS9 in the UK

The first time we got Sky me and family were addicted to it. My used to let us watch it and then go on shopping knowing that we were to busy to do somethign stupid. But after several years. It gets boring. I've seen the Star Trek shows,The new episodes of Simpsons isn't funny and I've seen most films on Sky that are good. I spend more time outside or playing games now.

Is this channel free on Sky? My Mum cancelled Sky since we barely watch it. I don't want her to start paying for it just so that i can watch one channel.

I may be wrong but i think Virgin 1 is also available on Freeview after 6pm so you could still catch the 8pm airings. On digital you've obviously got Virgin1+1 which means I can watch the DS9 episodes when I get in from work. :bolian:

I've always loved Past Tense, but I actually like it even more now after watching it again. Maybe it resonates more with me now that I'm older.

Yes, 'Past Tense' is really unique for DS9, it's the only two-parter that's completely standalone. It has some plotting problems - just about everything regarding time travel is horribly contrived, even by Star Trek's standards. But it's got a dead serious moral about how society treats the less fortunate, and some excellent character interaction with Sisko, Bashir, the thug, and the hostages. I particularly like how Sisko and Vin, the tough cop, played off each other. Vin starts out the model of bitter hostility, but behind all that he's a decent man. Obstensibly set in the more recent future, it's still an allegory for the present.

It's a very different turn for DS9, the closest thing it did like it was "Far Beyond the Stars", but it's a good diversion. I can't help but wonder if the plot would be better had Sisko beamed out as he was shot, thus 'dying': The original premise of the episode, IIRC. That would have been more contrived, but also with a better sense of martyrdom.

Season three's been pretty strong so far, except for 'Fascination', which as stated was a big 'meh' all round. I'm looking forward to 'Life Support', noting ironically that Bareil's last episode before he gets the axe had him acting like a complete buffoon.

^ Check out those ratings for The Riches. I've been glued to that show for weeks now! One of the best things on TV and yet it wouldn't surprise if Virgin 1 goes the way of FTN next year. Admittedly, it was only that and Trek I watch regularly... the other programming even Five wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Knowing our luck, if Virgin 1 does get pulled it'll be around about season 7 or so...

The Christmas Day 7-ep DS9 marathon is a chunk of season 1 - starting with Dax.

^ That's the middle chunk on Christmas Day (11am-6pm), the first chunk is on Christmas Eve (11am-6pm) and the last chunk is on Boxing Day (11am-5pm)

Don't worry Virgin 1 won't be going anywhere, next year they've got some bigger shows lined up like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Chuck.
