DS9 Episodes with a TOS theme?

q264

Today I started thinking about why there weren't any main TOS actors guest-starring on DS9, until suddenly I remembered "Trials and Tribble-ations", the Klingons in "Blood Oath", and Majel Barrett. As far as I know there weren't any of the main TOS cast on DS9, but there were still several episodes that had that TOS vibe in one way or another. Deep Space Nine definitely has roots in The Original Series.

Besides the episodes mentioned above I would also include "Move Along Home", which reminds me of the romping fantasy adventures the original crew went on from time to time. It was sort of goofy but still a lot of fun. It's definitely not an episode I skip. Also "Let He Who Is Without Sin...", which apart from the flowery language of the episode title, also seems like an iteration of TOS' "Shore Leave" type themes. This one is definitely a skippable affair.

So I put the question to you folks, what DS9 episode would you consider a TOS-inspired outing and why?

"Trials And Tribble Actions" is one of the best filmed episodes I've ever seen.

It was fantastic to see Sisko, Odo and the others show up in the middle of an old TOS episode.

Not to mention that I also thought that "This is how "Enterprise" should have been made. Exactly the same technology and design as in TOS".

That makes it more TOS-like.
Yes, of course. That's what I meant to say. So much so that it is clearly in homage.

I wholeheartedly agree! "Trials and Tribble-ations" is one of the best in the series. It holds up on so many levels and it was an experiment that really paid off. It would have been cool to see Enterprise carry on with that style, but at least they went a little low-tech with their designs. I haven't seen much footage of Discovery, but the sets look more inspired by the JJVerse than anything else. What a shame!

In the episode "Defiant", Frakes played Tom Riker...
Do you think the Tom Riker story is inspired by TOS? I could see that with the "evil double" trope.

Fascination?
Good call! I hadn't thought of that one but it definitely fits the bill.

Which were in turn inspired by someone's idea of future decor. Maybe different ship classes have different aesthetics?

"Meridian" - considering giving it all up for someone who lives in a weird situation.

The iPod maybe? That was my first thought when I saw the Star Trek '09 bridge.

Agreed. I feel the TOS vibes from that episode too. It's odd that this list seems largely comprised of what's generally considered the worst of the lot, "Trials and Tribble-ations" (and others) excepted.
