DS9.....Boring after a while?

I liked Ezri, she was more human, she wasn't all brave all the time like Jadzia.

And yeah it's not smart to just re-watch sacrifice of angels etc

Jadzia only became brave after the Juran personality emerged. Ezri has it in her too, she just needs to get a grip.

Juran's aggressive nature combined with Curzon's knowledge of Klingon culture is what made Jadzia a fighter.

I'd just like to say, I loved Worf's addition to the show. Rewatching it, I'm mere days away from "The Way of the Warrior" and I can't wait!

Of course, I'm also a TNG fan.

Ezri was a definite improvement over Jadzia, and a spunky, likeable character.

Ezri was the only weak spot in DS9. A pointless character who added nothing to the show. The screentime devoted to her should have been given to other characters. But it's a minor quibble.

Have any of you noticed this, that DS9 suffers a rewatchability problem, even more so than Voyager or TNG?

I have watched it about 5 or 6 times through, and it always grabs me again. To this day I count it as my favourite show.

However I do admit that the 'in between episodes', i.e. episodes in the later years that were less about the war, I find harder to watch. I just want the juicy stuff more.

I find myself actually skipping two episodes that are just long and don't add anything to the show, I forgot one but the other is when Miles has that 20 year prison sentence. It simply doesn't add anything at all and reminds me of a Voyager episode because everything is just dandy next episode.

"Hard Times" is one of my all time favourite episodes. And, to be fair, Voyager did similar things with its characters which weren't immediately reversed - like when Janeway demoted Paris.

But to be honest in this case... the drama reached its catharsis in the final act. There wasn't anything more that had to be said, and I'm glad they didn't beat it like a dead horse.

If you use to love it and now you find it predictable and boring my guess is DS9 overload. Just leave it alone for 6 months or so. I watch it in order about twice a year and never indulge in any marathon sessions, 1 a day unless it's raining then maybe 2. Even the lob episodes have some interesting B stories.

actually, no Trek's aged badly for me. but, honestly? I now watch DS9 for the laughs. I mean, I was there for the premiere and all the way through. I know it inside and out. nowadays, when I watch it, I really go for the black humor stuff as well as the sound bytes and the kneeslappers. it totally kills. I ADORE that stuff. no other Trek's done humor quite so well.

so, yes, it's aged exceedingly well for me.

There are good points with DS9 that as you say has good points. Still with any series they are dated to the era of the 1960's with TOS and with the 1990's with the rest.

The humour on DS9 was great. In fact, watching a youtube video clip of that famous Way of the Warrior exchange... between Odo and Quark, not Quark and Odo (the one about Quark's missing gun) told me how much I missed this show.

So I'm glad to be now rewatching it. ;)

Other than TOS, DS9 is the only other Trek series I find myself really enjoying watching over again. I have TNG, but with few exceptions I find it mostly dull and predictable. I don't even like Voyager or Enterprise enough to want them on DVD. DS9 really feels as though it was ahead of the time with the darker war and terrorist time plots. I was really surprised when I watched all the way through for the first time when I had collected the DVDs how relevant so many of the episodes felt for today.

I quite disagree with your last point. to me, the reason DS9 specifically does NOT feel dated as much as TOS or TNG (I actually won't lump VOY in here) is twofold:

1) the philosphy: DS9 dealt a lot with terrorism, the dynamic of fear, political opportunism, and religious fanaticism. any of those phrases sound "dated" to you? ;)

2) the accouterment: MOST of its regular AND recurrent characters were aliens. as such, their looks and behavior were not situated in the decade the show was produced. so, say, the hairstyles on DS9 weren't as situated in the '90s as the hairstyles in TOS and/or TNG were (situated in the '60s and the 80s, respectively).

you can also translate this into a lot of other things on the show. in general, DS9 had a *distinctly* alien feel to it. hence, it's less identifiable with a certain time in OUR world. hence, it's less OF the '90s, and more of whatever time (or universe) it portrayed.

so, if it feels dated to you, I'd like to know specific examples as to why exactly it does.

True, it is also the reason why I feel it would not be green lighted if it was going to be the first season in 2008. During the 1990’s was the ending of the Cold War, talk of why we needed a military. DS9 gave us that fantasy, as people did not fear these issues. DS9 is sci-fi, and with any sci-fi people want to live out a fantasy life. DS9 would not work today, as why deal with a fantasy of a culture of fear when we have to deal with a real culture of fear. Second, it is my feeling within America we are tired of a culture of fear and want hope not fear.
