I must have missed something.
They were on the same political side, but related?

I thought Dukat was related to him, but now looking at the book the "family" is mentioned by Dukat, not including him, and is about cousins... so maybe not.

OK... well, Ziyal was naive, but she was alright... and Dukat's wife had the sense to leave him... lol

Alrighty, now that the poll is closed, the winners are:

Episode: star
DS9 Theme: Nerys Ghemor
Random Theme: Praetor Shinzon

Congrats!
What be your themes??? :)

Oh boy, it's a good thing Berat didn't hear you say he was related to Gul Dukat. He would've flipped his lid!!!!!

As for your DS9 Episode challenge...Visions of the Prophets (or Pah-Wraiths). Your image must come from one of their visions.

Don't forget his own mother, who disowned him
More like, they left him/disowned him for the possibly only right thing he ever did in his life, recognizing Ziyal as his daughter and bringing her with him to Cardassia instead of killing her, which tells you a lot about those two women - that they were typical products of the hypocritical high-class Cardassian society and more concerned their social standing than anything.

I mean, I can see why the wife would be pissed off in any case, but come on - she must have at least known all along about his mistresses, and possibly even about half-Bajoran child! It's not like she just found out about his infidelity and was hurt, she left because she brought 'shame' to the family, and her marriage to him was hurting her social standing. Still, her actions are understandable, there are plenty of marriages like that in real life, especially among politicians, even though I can't relate. (I would have dumped him years ago.). But I have no sympathy for the mother. I wonder if she renounced his father as well, when he was executed as a traitor. With a mother like that, I'm not surprised Dukat turned out the way he did. :cardie: At least he was able to sacrifice his social position for his child, can't say the same for the mom.

Hard to say though- it seems like he kept them off planet, he had them on the station etc. The officers knew, but she may have been in the dark, too busy with... 7 kids? to investigate. Ziyal may have been the proof of his infidelity she needed. Not to say that they weren't a product of their society in a not-so-good way. I'm not sure any sympathy is needed regardless, she probably took everything when she left. He was clearly in the wrong in their society (even if it was for getting caught).
