Hate to rain on your already wet parade, but the head itself may be warped and in need of replacement.

This car wouldn't be an older Chrysler with a 4 cylinder, would it?

Then you may be OK. 80's & 90's Chryslers were so prone to overheating it was just a matter of time before the head gasket went.

Well, unfortunately, there seems to be plenty of problems with the 1999 Monte Carlo LS anyway. I don't think it's any of those, but it might be, I don't know.
