DRGIII announced new DS9 novel on Facebook.

One of the things I've really enjoyed on the Trek books is a willingness to go backwards as well as forwards in time. The character shields concept ended up committing Wars books to forever going forwards no matter what in search of ever greater jeopardy, but it didn't work out too well. Do appreciate that greater latitude and Trek's wilingness to use it.

So I'm hopeful we'll get the Ascendants story somehow.

Regardless of what the story is, that's a great title for a DS9 book.

I really hope there's at least flashbacks to the Ascendants story.

Very interesting title. I definitely could definitely see that being a very Bajor centric story, either Ascendants related or not.

^ Sacraments of Fire.

If this isn't the Ascendant story, the title is simply cruel.

Yeah, based on that title, I imagine I'll be disappointed if it isn't the Ascendants story.

And thanks for posting. This whole "can't repeat anything DRGIII says on Facebook" thing is a little ridiculous.

Do we know why he's like this? Is it just because of the backlash by some readers over Rough Beasts of Empire? I don't think he's been around here since that happened a few years ago.

^As stated, it's just that he wants people to visit his own page and generate traffic there, so he prefers if people link to his site rather than quoting its content wholesale. The same reason most professional websites don't want their articles quoted in full but prefer to be linked to.

It's really not a "can't repeat anything DRGIII says on Facebook" thing. It's simply him asking folks not to literally copy-and-paste, word-for-word, things he posts on Facebook, and him asking folks not to repost images from his Facebook page.

He's clearly fine with, and has never had a problem with, people talking about and even repeating what he says on Facebook. But he, totally understandably, by the way, would rather there be some incentive to visit his Facebook page. (The man's gotta make a living. As Christopher says, this is just like professional websites preferring partial quotes to full quotes.)

In fact, he addressed this very question last night.

Since I started this topic and made the statement about the copying from his FB, I'd like to apologize for that that. I was truly under the impression he didn't want linking as well, and that was my mistake. So, again, my apologies for that mistake.

Now that that's settled.
I can't wait for this book! While the previous novel was not my favorite of his, I really enjoyed the cliffhangers he left with Taran'atar and Kira as well as with Odo. All of that plus Sisko's future can make for a really interesting novel. I just hope that the characters get together in the novel instead of remaining as fragmented as they have been lately. I'm all for character growth and I know you can't just throw everyone back into their TV show roles but I'm really hoping for a unifying story in this novel. DRG has earned my trust with some great novels in the past so I have high hopes. It's several months away but, I'm excited!

My problem with R & D was common one with parallel storylines - the interesting one (in this case the assasination) kept being interrupted by the much less interesting one about Kira's hallucinations.

I see no reason to expect this to be an issue with his next book...

Which is fair enough if it was his own website, like your own who David Macks. I'm assuming you both pay for the webspace you use. As he uses Facebook, not everyone likes Facebook (I personally tolerate it and use it to orgnaise events and the like) and that's free and open to everyone, I don't think he should really be dictating what can and can not be done.

Seriously?

He's not trying to make money off of page views, he just wants people to engage with his opinions on his site where he reads the responses. This is objectionable?!

Am I the only one who just doesn't give a damn about the Ascendants storyline? It's been the better part of ten years since the Ascendants storyline was foreshadowed, and I'm way more interested in moving forward at this point, not backward.

I agree 100%. Though in my case, the majority of this Ascendants storyline happened while I was taking a break away from Trek Lit due to reasons not relevant to this thread. I return to the fold and everyone is up in the air over this Ascendants thing which apparently was left hanging.

If it could be incorporated into a novel set in DS9's "present" perhaps as flashback, I'd be fine with that, it could give some closure to those wanting this story resolved. But no, I have no real interest in going back and doing a full on Ascendants novel.

I think flashbacks which are also relevant to the "present" are the best way to handle it. And I really want it handled.

Not giving a damn is a tad over how I feel about it, but yeah, I do agree. I care more about whats's coming.

David posted on his facebook page that in next few days he's going to have more news maybe the ma Sacrements Of Fire or another book.:vulcan: David Gerorge was kind of Vague in his latest post.

Personally, I can't wait to one day, finally, read the Ascendants story. I was equally looking forward to finally reading Diane Duane's The Empty Chair when it was finally released, and that was more like 20 years or more after the fact.
