Dream Cast for Dune

Duke Leto Atriedes: Viggo Mortessen
Lady Jessica: Julianne Moore
Paul Atriedes: Michael Fassbender
Baron Vladimir Harkonnen: Philip Seymour Hoffman
Duncan Idaho: Christian Bale
Gurney Hallack: Ian McShane
Emperor Shaddam IV Corrino: Liam Neeson
Count Hassimir Finring: Cillian Murphy
Lady Margot Fingring: Julia Stiles
Chani:Rose Bryne

I'll have to think about the rest of the cast later. Those are half my picks. The film would be directed by Steven Soderbergh from a script written by Alex Garland.

Hmm, I like your Duke, Gurney and Fenring, Admiral Young. Don't agree so much on Jessica and Paul, due to the age. I know I picked Elizabeth Mitchell, who is far older than Jessica, but she doesn't look her age.

I think McShane is perfect visually for Gurney...and I like the idea of Christian Bale as Duncan. I dunno though if he would do it unless he was signed and locked to do "Dune Messiah" and "Children of Dune" as well. He might think Duncan is too small a role in the first movie.

Teehee. See I'm not the only one for Fassbender. Yes the age is off, but how old was McLachlan back in the day? Although in the eighties the teenagers always looked like they were 30 ;)

MacLachlan was 24 when Dune began filming. Clearly older than the character is supposed to be, but still more than a decade younger than Fassbender currently is.

I think the Lynch version of Paul was like 17 or 18. He looked like that, not 15 though. I think there will be creative liberties with the age whenever they do get out of development hell.

I do agree we are casting too old, but is this also because we can't think of a quality age accurate actor? I know, I know, Justin Bieber will make his film debut here! ;)

Really, I just don't like a lot of young Hollywood actors today, and I do draw a blank at one who could handle this kind of material.

On another note, I would like to see a few folks from the previous versions make appearances, too. Why not Steward as Emperor Shaddam?

^ That's precisely why. If I did cast a younger Paul with decent acting capability then I would go for "Wizards of Waverly Place"s David Henrie.

Shia LaBuef, anyone, then ;) Let's go Evan Stevens! I don't even know who some of these people are anymore, and I can hardly spell are their weird names.

Maybe the Twilight kids have *potential* *somewhere*, but my goodness I caught 30 seconds of them at the end of The People's Choice Awards last night and I just thought they looked so dumb, high, trashy, and utterly classless. Okay this wasn't the Oscars, but this is waht our standards are? Really, what does Kristen Stewart have to be so angry about? Why is Lautner always squinting? What is wrong with Pattinson's hair? Why should I give a hoot about any of them anyway?

By contrast, Fassbender can act. Makes a big damn difference. I haven't gone this crazy at collecting and viewing everything an actor has done since I first fell in love with Montgomery Clift 20 years ago. Hehe.

I would pick an unknown kid for Paul, but would like to see Kate Beckinsell as Jessica, Dame Judy Densch as Revernd Mother Mohiam, and oddly enough, Brent Spiner as Duncan.

Are we supposed to be worrying about the paychecks here? Wouldn't Beckinsale be more expensive than Burn? We'll con everyone into the merchandising and box office percent for the 8 sequels that will never get made. ;)

Did we decide where we are even starting? Dune proper or prequels in order? My dad got me the last one a few years ago, and I was just so convoluted by everything, I've never read it. Not to say I won't but so much to read, so little time- and so many movies to see, too.

What was the real information before the Dev Hell? Oh, and did anyone mention seriously or jokingly having a Sting reprisal? hehe

I'm saying that Jessica was young when she married the Duke, and he wanted a boy. Let's say she was 16, because this is a monarchy, and then got pregnant straight away, from BG fertility powers.

For some reason I have this casting stuck in my brain.

Duke Leto Atriedes: Adrian Pasdar (although Viggo Mortessen isn't a bad idea)
Lady Jessica: Angelina Jolie
Reverend Mother Mohiam: Meryl Streep

Paul Atriedes: a young unknown actor; David Henrie seems fine from his imdb page

^ I like your suggestion for Mohiam. That seems bang on. David Henrie I mentioned as an alternative for Michael Fassbender I believe. I love him on "Wizards of Waverly Place". He's also Ted's son on "How I Met Your Mother".
