Dream Cast for Dune

JRoss

Commodore
Commodore
I'll list what my thoughts are for an ideal Dune cast and welcome others.

Paul Atreides:
Duke Leto Atreides: Liam Neeson
Lady Jessica: Elizabeth Mitchell
Alia Atreides: N/A, as she'd be only four years old.
Duncan Idaho: Christian Bale
Gurney Halleck: Mickey Rourke
Thufir Hawat: Erich Avari
Dr. Wellington Yueh: Watanabe Ken
Liet Kynes: Corbin Bernsen
Stilgar: Arnold Vosloo
Chani: I've always pictured her as that Afghani girl from the National Geographic cover.
Otheyem: Sendhil Ramamurthy
Emperor Shaddam IV: Michael Ansara
Count Hassimir Fenring: Michael Emerson
Lady Margot Fenring: Monica Bellucci
Baron Vladimir Harkonnen: Ian McNiece, I know that would not happen a second time, but he's seriously the best man for the job.
Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen: Robert Pattinson
Glossu Rabban Harkonnen: Tom Hardy
Piter de Vries: Christopher Walken or Crispin Glover

Fassbender for Paul!

I've been out of the loop with Dune recently. Is there a new production or is this just wishful thinking? Maybe Dune is too cerebral for the Megan Fox generation? I lost track of the books some years ago as well.

A new Dune movie is in the works since 2008. Peter Berg was originally supposed to direct, but he dropped out. He was then replaced by Pierre Morel, who also quit as director recently. So far no news who will be Morel's replacement. IMDb currently gives an (estimated?) relase date of 2014.

Status: Development Hell

Who ever is more popular in First Class as Paul Atreides? ;)

What isn't being remade and in development hell these days?

Some interesting picks for Dune. I agree with Ian McNiece, he did a great job as the Baron.
But I wonder if the book can realistically be made into a 2 or 3 hour movie. There is just so much ground to cover.

Michael Fassbender? way too old!

What has the world come to when what 35 is old? ;) That's my point with the irony of the Logan's Run remake.

I'd rather have a slightly older and classy casted Dune remake then it be dumbed down to some teeny 2 hour glitter. What happened with the miniseries SciFi did? I liked the first one, though I can't recall if I liked the Children of Dune or not.

Perhaps instead of a movie a limited cable series somewhere? Though HBO has Thrones and Showtime The Borgias and Camelot Spartacus and Camelot. Who's left?

Honestly, I doubt it. There is too much to Dune to be covered in three hours or less. That is one of the primary problems with the Lynch movie. You need a six-hour mini series at least to properly cover the story.

I don't really know. I thought Ian McNeice, Saskia Reeves, Giancarlo Giannini, Uwe Ochsenknetch, and Laura Burton were all perfectly cast.

I did really like both of SciFi's mini-series and their casting. Saw them when they originally aired. When it comes to production design though I guess I prefer Lynch's version in most places. The mini-series seems a little too flashy in that regard.

I don't necessarily disagree with JRoss's casting (actually I can see most of those actors in said parts), and although I must admit Mr. Pattinson might be fitting as pretty-boy Feyd Rautha, I really don't have any respect for him after...you know.

I don't like Pattinson myself, but I think he'd be a perfect Fey'd, and having him in the movie would draw in a larger audience, doing more to guarantee a sequel.

Well the problem with that is that Paul is a teenager, he's 15. What's the point of making a dune movie if you turned the central character into a adult? It makes as much sense to me as making an ender's game movie where Ender is a 40 year old divorcee.

It'd require more than a little necromancy at this point, but I've always pictured Orson Welles as Baron Harkonnen. Too bad the movie wasn't made back in the '70s.

Switchbk, you don't like Bale for Duncan? He looks the part, he can bring physicality to the role of a master swordsman a

Craig Horner as Paul
he was kinda hammy in Legend of the Seeker, but I'm sure he could have done better :P

Adrian Paul as Dunc-- wait . . . yeah that could work :D
