I've been watching DragonBallZ Kai on Nicktoons. I've noticed that I don't enjoy the battles as much. I thought it was because it was something I'd seen before. The show supposedly "cut out the fluff." After rewatching some DragonballZ original footage I realize they threw out the baby with the bathwater.
Maybe the problem is nicktoons. I don't know. I don't know what the regular cut of Kai looks like. After comparing footage I've seen that they cut out build up, reaction shots, and violence. Imagine watching Rocky IV and when Drago punches Rocky, instead of his head jerking back, sweat flying and blood spurting from his mouth(showing the intensity of the hit), you just see his fist just touch rocky's head and that is it. They cut out footage that shows the impact of a hit. They cut out any blood. You don't see Guldo's head sliced off by Vegeta. You don't see Burter's clobered look after Goku wollops him. The fights lose a hell of alot.
Even moments of Goku saying something charming have been cut down. They sped things up, but I think the show has been badly reduced in quality.
