Dragon Age - Discussion Thread

Alas, the new patch has made my character's hair look hilariously plastic and shiny again, hopefully they fix that quickly.

It also messed up the mods I was running, but obviously that was to be expected. :p I'm hoping the modders will get updated versions out quick.

Removed the connection between mesh quality and shader quality and added a Shader Quality setting to the Graphics options.
That may be what's causing the shiny hair this time. Try readjusting your graphics settings.

Looks like we'll be getting a new DLC trailer tomorrow.

It's a fair bet that this'll have something to do with the Avvar/Alamarri, given that Hakkon is one of their old gods. I note the graphic features Solas, so assuming this is playable posted ending, it may have something to do with the elven gods too. I'm guessing that like the Tevinter Old Gods, the gods of the Avvar are the same group (if not the specific individuals) that the elves worshipped, but by other names.

Oh good, something to tide me over until Pillars of Eternity comes out on Thursday. :)

[edit] Just noticed Patch 6 came out today as well.

"Adjusted position of mosaic pieces for “The Fall” so they can all be collected."

ABOUT FUCKING TIME! That should've been in like the first patch.

That bug always struck me as a little odd since you'd expect collections would be one of the easier things to test in beta.

Never bothered me though as I could never really get the point of the mosaics. I can't help but feel like there was supposed to be something a little more substantial that got cut.
Indeed, when my Inquisitor first spoke the the dwarf that give you the codex entries upon completion, I had no idea what either of them were talking about. A distinct lack of context IMO.

Bottom line: I can understand why it took them 6 patches to get around to it. Clearly it's not much of a priority.

Looks like someone at MS goofed and released the DLC early. Apparently they decided there's no point taking it down at this point so anyone on the XBone can go download it right now.

I wonder if they've fixed the "Beloved and Precious" achievement glitch. I successfully romanced two different characters on two different play-throughs and it never popped.

^ I haven't seen it in any of the change notes, so who knows. Pretty sure that achievement popped for me first time out so it's an intermittent bug which are always harder to run down.

Personally I'm still trying to figure out if the previous patch was supposed to remove most of the amulet of power or if it was a bug. I can't seem to find anyone at Bioware saying so either way.

On an unrelated note, I just came across this hidden quest: -

Am I crazy, or does that sound like it's suppose to be this guy again?

^Funny you should mention that, I did that quest last night after reading about it on the forum the other day. And yeah, I thought it was supposed to be the hermit, too.

Just finished the DLC last night and I have to say I think I like this new approach of introducing new areas as sort of mini-expansion packs. They certainly did a much better job of tying the environmental side-quests back into the critical path. Good variety of environments too, unlike the ones in the main game which all tended to be more or less uniform. Here there's lakeside cliffs, dense jungle, a winding river valley, mountain paths and even a dark swamp.

The baddies could have done with a better introduction and I don't think we even get to see the antagonist Avvar chief until right near the end. They really ought to do more introductory cut-scenes, if for no other reason than to showcase their new assets.

Clocking in at a little over 15 hours, it certainly the most substantive DLC they've put out to date. I don't think even Mark of the Assassin or Citadel took more that five hours. Of course a lot of that has to do with the open world exploration, but that's part of the appeal.

Didn't see the twist at the end coming, much less the double twist.
The first Inquisitor was a mage AND an elf? The Chantry has certainly been busy rewriting history over the years. Between this, Shartan, and Andraste (possibly) being a mage it makes you wonder what else is BS.

One small note: I think I may have missed a quest or puzzle somewhere as I've noticed several veilfire braziers around the map but can't find any runes nearby.

The trailer in case anyone missed it: -

I've downloaded the DLC but won't be trying it until Sunday.

From the sounds of it, I think I'd prefer a more heavily story orientated one but I think I'm likely to enjoy it anyway.

I'll probably make load my first character (Fem Mage Lavellan) to run through it first though I've finished that game.

For my current character, I'll probably leave it until I've got to Skyhold at least.

You'd probably have to wait a little longer than that as the recommended level for starting scouting the area is 20. While you can of course do it prior to finishing the main quest, it seems as if it was designed to be post-ending.

I'm sure at some point they will do something with more substance, this is a pretty good little adventure and puts a bit of a spotlight on the tribal human cultures that have been hinted a before, but never really featured properly.
If you're the type to enjoy the lore and read codex entries, you'll find there's more connection to the larger mythos than you'd think.

Probably better to wait with my second character then:lol:

With my Lavellan, I accidentally took her into a fight that was way above her level at the time. It ended with everyone running away (some on fire too).

Yeah, my Dalish mage was just tickled pink by the Ameridan revelation. I feel totally validated in picking her as my canon inquisitor now. Between that, allying with the rebel mages, and putting Briala and Leliana in power, it's just springtime for persecuted groups in my Thedas! :techman:

Either way come prepared; the combat difficulty has apparently been intentionally tweaked for this area to present more of a challenge than usual. My character has been over-levelled for so long it was a bit of a shock encountering enemies that presented a real threat!

The fade rift fights are especially tough as you can get multiple fear and despair demons spawning in a single wave. A well aimed dispel or spell purge can go a long way!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to doing that with my elf mage too. I think I'll also try and do the DLC with her pre-ending as I'd like to bring Solas along and see how he reacts to a few things.

Incidentally, I figured out what at least two of those veil torches were about.
The one just north-west of the starting camp is so you can harvest some veil quartz in the cliffs above. I'd actually already got it, but didn't twig that I was only able to because I had a veil torch in hand (I was of a mind to look for hidden runes.)
The one in the swamp is for a little lore related collection sidequest that I'd totally missed until I stumbled across it just now (ironically, while looking for other veil quartz nodes.) As such I'm starting to think each torch has a different purpose. There's still at least one torch who's purpose I've yet to figure out. I've already traipsed all over that area torch in hand and if there's something there to find, I've clearly missed it.

Am I being paranoid, or is this latest paid DLC pack just a bunch of art assets lifted from Jaws of Hakkon? As in things that are already in the game files, just applied to equip-able items? Like, the kind of thing that should probably have been part of Jaws of Hakkon? Just when you thought EA had started to behave itself too...

I wonder if it's a coincidence that CD Projeck RED posted this only 30 mins later. Either ways it puts EA & Bioware to shame just a tad, no?
