Dragon Age - Discussion Thread

Indeed. Anders in DA2 should probably have been a completely separate character, I felt he was hardly even related to the Awakening character.

Since I've decided to bite the bullet and loose 60+hrs of gameplay to fix that Cullen quest bug, I thought I might as well take the opportunity to take another run at recreating my Hawke since I botched it quite badly the first time (going off memory and in a rush!)

Three attempts later and It still doesn't look right! Anyone care to critique where I'm going wrong? It seems to match in the CC, but then as soon as the cutscene starts it all goes horribly wrong!

Eyes too small? I keep fiddling, but it only seems to get worse. Perhaps I'm using the wrong face shape....

^ Both look like very good approximations to me, but maybe I'm easy to please ;)

BTW, don't you get some sort of cognitive dissonance playing a Hawke-alike when you get to the part where
you actually meet Hawke?
;)

Yeah I spent almost my entire playthrough of DA2 tweaking my Hawke with the mirror (mostly getting the makeup so it doesn't look like a paint factory exploded in her face under the wrong lighting) so I'm probably overly sensitive about it not looking right in DAI.

The goal was to make her actually look like Bethany's sister, which I never felt the default design really captured. Weird, you'd think they'd design the rest of the Hawke family as a unit. Granted, Carver looks a bit more like the default male Hawke and most versions of Bethany look like Leandra, but for some reason I felt like default female Hawke didn't really fit in.

Hmm, now that you mention it, they don't look very cohesive as siblings go, it's true. Maybe they came more after one parent and player-Hawke more after the other? ;)

I don't know, I liked the default FemHawke (MaleHawke was alright as well) in DA2.
I think they did a decent job aging the default FemHawke for Inquisition. Haven't seen MaleHawke yet.

You know what actually surprises me (not in a negative or positive way, just surprises me)?

This is a game published by EA, in 2014, and there is no companion app where we get to check on the status of our war council/send them out on missions. Amazing, right?

I suspect that may have been on the table at some point (the game has been in development since before ME3 came out after all) but lately EA seems to be backpeddling on a number of fronts based on negative consumer reaction.

Speaking of, has anyone tried the MP yet? I've put a few hours in and while it's not terrible....it's nowhere near as much fun as the ME3MP was. Seems to be a lot more grinding and a lot less variety (even compared to ME3 at launch) which is odd since ME3 had a handful of fixed area maps while DAI's appear to be semi-procedurally generated dungeon crawls.

Apparently they're calling the multiplayer "DAMP" internally

Haven't gotten around to trying it out - for DAMP, they're actually developing a companion app, Iquisition HQ:

Is any sort of app planned for Dragon Age multiplayer?

BioWare understands that players can expend a lot of time going through their inventory and crafting new items. We also understand that when you are online with your friends, you want to get into action quickly. With these needs in mind, we developed the Inquisition HQ. There, you will be able to access all of your MP characters and their inventory. You will be able to change your loadout, salvage items, and craft new items. You can do all that on the go because it will run on PCs, tablets, and smartphones. We will give more details about Inquisition HQ in the following months.

I figured I'd wait for today's patch before trying multiplayer.

Here's my current blond haired, blue eyed, Chantry-supporting, Cullen-romancing, Mary Sue knight-enchanter who takes all the upper right dialogue options. The KE specialization is just STOOOPIDLY overpowered. killing a dragon basically just involves running up to it and whacking it over and over again with your spirit blade until it dies. Since the blade regenerates your barrier with each hit, you never take any damage. Stick a generate guard on hit enchantment on your staff and/or armor and you may as well be playing with god mode turned on.

Don't think it's a standalone app so much as a website, like the old N7HQ. Not much functionality yet, though I'm sure they'll be updating things on the go.

Yeah, I really dislike that particular trend of calling everything an app. Technically of course you can describe it as a web application, but let's not fuck around here, it's a fucking website guys. Well, at least at this point, they have been being intentionally vague about it coming out as an actual app later.

Knight-Enchanter in a nutshell. I'm level 16 and my party members have been unconscious for about 10 minutes now.

Finally the fixed the Hawke bug and I can continue. Had to put up with shiny hair yesterday but amazingly they fixed it pretty much straight away.

However, I'm not so sure that they have made it more stable as they claim. I've had 4 CTDs since the patch, the first two in the within the first 15 minutes of playing after it was patched.

At least now I can go around and do the Crestwell stuff and move whatever that Hawke quest is called forward.

A tangent, but I wonder how much DAI's launch has influenced in getting the Witcher 3 pushed back by 3 months. Not just in its critical acclaim, but the somewhat more mixed player responses, if that hasn't spooked them a bit.

Dragon Age: Inquisition – Patch 2 Notes

From Pat LaBine, producer for Dragon Age: Inquisition

We have a patch for PC, Ps3, Ps4, and Xbox 360 coming out today to address some of the issues players have been having. Here’s a list of the upcoming changes:

Release date: December 9, 2014

[...]
  • Fix to Spirit Blade so it no longer triggers combos
;)

Iron Bull: You're good with that sword.
Blackwall: Thanks.
Iron Bull: I see all that time on your own has given you a firm grip.

Well that was stressful. Still not caught up to where I was before reloading, but I just got done with the Winter Palace and I was struggling to remember what I did the first time around. I want to preserve my initial decisions, and that one felt very complex the second time around!

I'm about three quarters of the way through my knight-enchanter playthrough but decided today to start up a rift mage elf playthrough on the side, just to see how it goes. So far it feels a lot richer from a roleplaying perspective, since so many people call you out on being an elf. Gives you a good excuse to pick the lower right dialogue options sometimes. Oh, you're going to be a jerk to me because of my race? Fine, I'll be a jerk to you right back. Sort of diametrically opposed to my KE as well since being Dalish, she obviously doesn't give a flying fuck about Andraste.

I'm torn as to whether my Mage playthrough should be a Dalish or a Vashoth. On the one hand a Dalish apostate comes front loaded with a bunch of issues directly tied to the plot.

On the other I don't really want to do a Qunari Warrior as that feels a bit too obvious and I like the idea of recreating my 2H female city elf warrior. The image of a huge sword on such a petite frame is just too novel to pass up.

If I do an archer it''l probably be Dwarven since again, sword & board is the more obvious choice and DW rogue is already taken.

I suppose I could just roll two mage playthroughs, but it'll be a long while before I get to the second one.

Oh, speaking of, has anyone seen Sera's reaction to meeting a female Qunari inquisitor yet?

You should probably do Dalish, much more immersive, and I've heard there isn't much in the way of race-specific content for the Qunari. Heck, they don't even get race-specific armor (beyond the vitaar) like elves and dwarves do. As soon as I get Skyhold I'm headed to the Exalted Plains for some keeper armor. :techman:
