Dr. Who Movie in Development

I dont think McGann is the worst idea ever, but the question is how to sell him to new series fans, short of it starting with the page from Human Nature and the camera zooming in on his picture.

Easy. You start it in the American Wild West, the period his outfit represents, with him going to get a haircut (thus allowing McGann to immediately lose the wig). You get some banter and talk between the barber and The Doctor to establish the 8th Doctor's personality. He leaves and suddenly a wave of one-hundred-thousand Daleks crest the horizon, racing towards the town like a cloud of locusts. "Exterminate!" and all that.

The Doctor can't save anyone really, as the town erupts into chaos, which leaves him racing through the screams and explosions to get back to his TARDIS.

Where did the Daleks come from? Why are they there? What are they after?

And then he suddenly receives a mental summons from Gallifrey.

The Last Great Time War is on.

You'd have to justify why Ten wouldn't clue him in on the whole Time War thing, though. Because the excuse given in The Ten Doctors was fairly lame.

I'd love a movie with Tennant. I think it would work financially too. Tennant would be the best actor to pull that one off so there's no doubt in my mind that if there is a movie, it would include Tennat. I continue to worry about RTD going overboard with an even larger budget but, shoot, I'm willing to take that risk!

So the leak on RTD online resume a few weeks ago(that was quickly changed)and him going to the USA might actually see a Who movie happening, if these recent reports are anything to go by.

A three doctors movie with 8, 9 and 10 all in it, and a production big enough to do the time war story justice.

Unless the movie is a lead from Tenants last show at Xmas, we are after all just assuming that Tenant will reg in the last episode, but could that reg be moved into the movie and have the 11th dr appear in it, and be shown before the 11th doctors TV show is aired next year.

No, for two reasons: the BBC charter forbids even the appearance of a television storyline being continued in a non-TV medium for a separate fee, and there would be nowhere near enough time to finance and produce such a movie before next Easter.

That first reason also makes a Time War story a bit iffy, though arguably enough time has passed since the Time War was mentioned regularly. Anyway, I don't think RTD wants to do the Time War as its own big story.

No, but what's being developed here is pretty clearly a theatrical film. A hypothetical TV movie would probably have more freedom to follow up on series storylines, but I don't think the BBC would see much point in making one.

No, but what's being developed here is pretty clearly a theatrical film. A hypothetical TV movie would probably have more freedom to follow up on series storylines, but I don't think the BBC would see much point in making one.

Heck, we pretty much have already gotten some TV movies already-- something like Voyage of the Damned would air in a 90-minute slot in the States just fine.
