Dr. Who Movie in Development

let me post the last few lines of a story on the BBC News website

BBC entertainment correspondent Lizo Mzimba said there were no guarantees a film would be made and that, if the project went into full production, a release would be a long time away.

"They should bring Paul McGann back. He's the Doctor true fans want to see again."

Sorry, someone was going to say it eventually.

I'd like to see McGann get slightly more screen time. Perhaps an episode but I doubt cinemagoers would know or care about a Doctor from yesteryear. Largely its the Classic Series DVDs that hold my interest, half of 2005 and on average 2-3 shows a year since. Not sure whether that makes me any kind of fan, true or not.

I dont think McGann is the worst idea ever, but the question is how to sell him to new series fans, short of it starting with the page from Human Nature and the camera zooming in on his picture.

I would love to see a Who movie, or even a series of Who movies starring Tennant. Hopefully he'll agree to it and BBC can make it happen, I really want to see him on the big screen as the Doctor.

cant disagree with that.

I know lets have a Ten & Eight Doctor movie

Easy. You start it in the American Wild West, the period his outfit represents, with him going to get a haircut (thus allowing McGann to immediately lose the wig). You get some banter and talk between the barber and The Doctor to establish the 8th Doctor's personality. He leaves and suddenly a wave of one-hundred-thousand Daleks crest the horizon, racing towards the town like a cloud of locusts. "Exterminate!" and all that.

The Doctor can't save anyone really, as the town erupts into chaos, which leaves him racing through the screams and explosions to get back to his TARDIS.

Where did the Daleks come from? Why are they there? What are they after?

And then he suddenly receives a mental summons from Gallifrey.

The Last Great Time War is on.

Roll theme music... ;)

A McGann movie will never happen, BBC will obviously want to make as much money as possible off of a Doctor Who movie. The best way to do that would be with Tennant due to his popularity with both Who hardcore fans and casual/non fans. Making a movie with the most obscure Doctor isn't the way to do that.

again I cant argue with what Kaifufan is saying, but I think you guys all know I have a huge biased for Tennant.

Hey, Tennant can have the cinema. I'm talking made-for-DVD Time War with McGann. Get Eccles in for the cameo at the end, and I'm happy... ;)

:guffaw:yeah im not sure CE would return for a d2DVD movie. Im pretty sure that its going to take more than just the prestige & honour of appearing in a d2DVD movie to tempt him back to Doctor Who.

I could be wrong, for all I know he is a sucker for the d2DVD American Pie sequels, and think that its a good idea.

Hey, we can all dream, right? ;)

Besides, I've never thought a Time War cinema movie would work. For one thing, it's too much "in-continuity" to be open to a broader audience. Sure, sure, I'm certain some people that don't already watch and understand Doctor Who could get into it. But, I'd much rather do what everyone is talking about with Tennant and stand-alone story in the movies, and leave the Time War to a big-budgeted DVD movie, or HBO/BBC ROME-like joint-effort mini-series.

Of course, in my dreams I'm rich enough to fund the thing myself...

I could maybe see Eccleston returning for a 10 second regeneration scene but I don't think he would be willing to do any more Who then that. Based on interviews I've read it seems like he's done with Who, though I would love to see him (and any other previous Doctor) return for a multi-Doctor story.

The only way I could see McGann appearing is if it happens jointly with Ten, and he plays a secondary role.

You'd have to justify why Ten wouldn't clue him in on the whole Time War thing, though. Because the excuse given in The Ten Doctors was fairly lame.

I'd love for it to be true.

Though, I'd prefer that a film series cut ties with the TV show. Hugh Laurie as the Doctor, please.
