Dr Who Experience No More

So it finally shut.

What a shame, all because of a lease expiring or something, but the Radio Times was propagating a rumour that it might move up to Manchester, which would suit me down to the ground.

So glad I made the effort to visit, how else would I have found out that Moffat's hands are tiny, and Capaldi's left hand is exactly, and I mean exactly, even with the wedding ring, the same size and shape as mine. Right hand, not so much.

That's too bad. I visited the Doctor Who Experience back in November of 2013 around the 50th anniversary. It was such a great place. So many props, sets, costumes, etc. We even got to tour the actual filming TARDIS set at the nearby studio. I hope it reopens elsewhere.

I heard / read a rumor somewhere that what was the expierence is supposed to become part of some kind of bigger BBC Theme Park or something of that sort...

Wonder if its the same rumour. Maybe Media City in Salford is where its headed. The BBC has enough history and properties do something really special with international appeal. One can only hope BBC Land is less extortionate than Ceebeebies Land though, pffft.

I'm in Arizona, so anywhere in the U.K. is a bit too far away for me to come visit. But closing it would feel absolutely like my luck considering they also got rid of Back to the Future: The Ride at Universal Studios and Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton. (And, IIRC, the Las Vegas Hilton still hasn't replaced Star Trek: The Experience with anything else and that was 9 years ago.)

I was there in 2015 (the day AFTER they filmed the series nine finale scenes of the Doctor and Clara in her diner/TARDIS), and loved every moment I was there. Closing the exhibition is like Disneyland closing the Magic Kingdom. Every fan of the franchise would go there FOR it, and (re)moving such an obvious source of tourism dollars makes no sense to me. I'm gue$$ing there'$ a $imple rea$on the lea$e wa$n't extended or renewed... But the show is still too big of a hit to have this fade away so soon.
