Dr. Strange movie - gettin' real!

Actual news-type news!

Marvel Studios has hired Conan scribes Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write Dr. Strange, marking forward progress on a long-gestating superhero property which will likely be among the first Marvel films generated under the Disney banner.

Who's your pick for Dr. Strange? Bradley Cooper gets my vote.

Here's an oddball choice that could work in a Robert Downey Jr type of way: Brad Pitt.

Or if Jon Hamm is looking to make the move into movies...?

Everytime I see a trailer for that new Nick Cage "Wizard's Apprentice" or whatever movie, I feel bad for Marvel that too many people are going to think their Dr. Strange is a knock off of this movie. Unless this movie fades as quickly from memory as I think it will.

If he can pull of the zaniness and the intensity of the character, sure. He always seems so laid back in his roles.

Clea should be played by Gigi Edgely but of course she's a no-name so they'll probably cast Scarlett Johannson instead (which would be a better role for her than the Black Widow!)

Jim Caviezel is way more suitable for the role than Bradley Cooper.
Agreed.

I think Pierce Brosnan could have been an excellent Doctor Strange when he was a bit younger, around his GoldenEye days, but he's probably too old now.

Yeah, a young Brosnan would be perfect for Strange. The way I read the character in the comics, he is brilliant but aloof, dour but funny, dispassionate but capable of losing his temper. Sort of like Dumbledore meets Gandalf meets Sherlock Holmes.

I'd like to see James Hong play The Ancient One.

And Lawrence Fishburne should play Dormammu.

I think this could be a great movie, but wonder about its box-office potential. In the comics, Strange tends to work better as a guest star. On his own, with some notable exceptions (the Lee/Ditko stuff in particular), Strange tends to fall flat.

Remember the film 'Dr. Mordrid' with Jeffrey Combs? That was the best Dr. Strange movie to date. Brian Johnson as the villain/Baron Mordo pastiche was infernal.

^^ I'll have to look that up.

I think Alan Rickman might make a good Doc. Not sure about Clea and Wong.

Hmm, this could be good. But I'm more stoked about the Runaways news in that article, frankly.
