Dr Lee

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
How awesome is this guy? Bill Dow plays the brilliant-but-absent-minded professor perfectly, and I love any scene with him in it (like when hetheorised that Carter and Mitchell were 'miniaturised,' then calculating 'the distance they could walk on tiny legs' and securing the area) or any scene where he's mentioned (Sam: "Dr. Lee got a nasty shock while trying to blah blah" Daniel: *sigh* "How is he?" Sam: "Dr. Lam says sensation should return to his legs within a few days" ).

So what are your favourite Dr. Bill Lee moments? :D

Yeah I hated him in Paradise Lost but he's become a welcome sight over the years. And I loved his scenes in Arthur's Mantle especially when tried to convince Landry that Mitchell and Carter had actually shrunk and I loved how thought that he had brought them back until he learned Daniel was reponsible for it. :guffaw:

I love his whole "Twilight Bark" Lord of the rings "Signal Fire" int hat one episode of Atlantis!

He's funny in small doses, but he has been a bit overused in recent years. It's nice whenever they give him something to do besides be the comic foil (eg. Paradise Lost), but he plays the comic foil well.

I like Dr. Lee, but I liked him more early on, before they made him into such a boob in order to make our heroes look good.

Also, I get confused about the few details we have about his home life. In one episode he talks about how he's married and has kids, yet in another a few weeks later, he talks about how great it is to go to science conventions to pick up chicks. Is this a case of making Dr. Lee a slimeball or just a continuity goof.

Well, he mentioned his kids (but not the wife) in an Atlantis episode set during SG-1 season 9. It isn't until season 10 he talks about cruising for babes. My guess would be that he's divorced.

^Considering he spends months living on space stations, can't tell his wife half the things he discovers at work and then spends his off time playing World of Warcraft, I can't imagine why his wife woud divorce him. :)

Considering his namesake baseball player Bill Lee was also known as the spaceman, for doing strange things and an apparant taste for marijuana. It seems appropriate that Dr. Lee would be absent minded and a little strange. I too enjoy most of his appearances as he adds just the right comic touch. He to me captures the spirit of the lab men in the old Get Smart series, for his blend of seriousness and being out of touch.

Fun fact: Dr. Lee was originally intended to be an asian woman. He was given the actor's first name after the casting process changed that.

I really enjoy his Atlantis appearances. Like in the S4 premiere when him and Carter arrive through the gate, and he notes the planet they were on looks like a place in World of Warcraft.

Begging Landry, et. al. to not shoot the Ancient communications device in "Origin" - this guy sometimes acts like he's Doc Brown, walking around like he's conducting the orchestra of the world.

That's exactly the point when I realized I hate this character. Underwritten, overplayed geek stereotype. I don't mind geeks, because I really liked Cavanaugh, the antagonistic geek from S1 and Zelenka is always a sight for sore eyes. But Dr. Lee just screams "comic relief."

That awful Hawaiian shirt he wore on the Odyssey later in the season probably didn't help matters much, eh? :D

Yeah, that doesn't help. I just watched SGA Adrift and Lifeline the other day and it just bugged that the best they can write is that he plays WoW and then can't use a camera. Just retarded writing. Comedy is the hot chick or cool guy playing WoW. Sheppard and McKay playing an Ancient version of WoW and distressing a feudal society in the process is funny. A geek geeking out is not fresh.

I hate Dr. Lee. The character is incompetent to the poit of rediculousness and he's annoying. It's not like he's a good scientist that bad things happens to, he like one of the "Other Guys"... used for one or two funny episodes tops and then never heard from again.

^ He deactivated a Naqqdah bomb, invented staff weapon-resistant armour, and he was in a lot of episodes between seasons 6-10 of SG1 and 1-4 of Atlantis. I don't get how he's like 'the other guys.'

Actually, it wasn't until season 8 or 9 that they began using him for comic relief. Before then, Dr Lee was actually a pretty serious character.
