Dr. Crusher's Staff and Resonsibilities.

It would be odd if all the crew members with medical expertise were wiped out during the jump into the Delta Quadrant, but not impossible.
It's stated in Memory Alpha that the "entire" medical crew was killed. That would denote more than a couple of people.

I just remember the exchange in Caretaker:

"Status of your doctor?"

"He's dead... We lost our nurse too."

er, remember that some of this is the reality of TV.

The reason we see Crusher and not lower-ranking nurses treating minor, routine stuff is so they don't have to pay more guest stars. Doesn't mean that realistically Beverly should be treating every case of headache and sprained ankle that comes into sickbay.

Thaaaaaaat's right. I wonder if that was just because of the single mission they were on or if that was to be their standard complement.

Ah, true. But even she was never actually seen together with them...

Timo Saloniemi

That isn't a valid argument. Selar was referenced by Crusher in a later episode as being on the Enterprise with Crusher.

I don't see any problem with just one or two doctors.
It seems like it takes Crusher about five minutes to mend a broken bone, and fixing a flesh wound is faster than zipping up you pants.

Dr Crusher mentions her staff in Remember Me:

CRUSHER: Sickbay is totally empty. Apparently I no longer have any staff.
RIKER: And that surprises you, Doctor?
CRUSHER: Surprises me? I'll say it surprises me. There should be at least four members of my staff on duty at all times.
DATA: I am afraid ship's records do not concur. Doctor.
CRUSHER: What are you talking about?
DATA: You do not have a staff.
CRUSHER: You're telling me I'm the sole medical officer on a ship with over a thousand people on board?
DATA: Excuse me, Doctor, but the entire ship's complement is two hundred and thirty.

Yes it is an artificial reality, but Crusher does not object to the 1:250 ratio, just the missing crew!
This in turn means that Voyager's entire medical crew was just those 2 people. That may come across as dumb but hey! It's the future!!!

For smaller ships like Voyager, there is the option of medical stasis to keep people alive until they can be treated.

It's possible that there were more doctors but they were occupied during the day by medical/general scientific research.

I would assume that the Ent-D would have a fair sized medical complement. With the potentially hostile situations and the (supposed) deep space exploration it would be ludicrous to have just one or two doctors. 4-6 doctors with various specialties mixed in would make sense. Nurses, I have no idea, maybe 15-20? This isn't counting field medics/corpsman...
