Download voice engine?

Hello!

It seems that I haven't posted anything on this forum for ages now. I have been wondering about if there is a Star Trek voice engine available somewhere which I can download?

I have been wondering about this for a long time.

Do you mean a voice synthesizer that sounds like Majel Barrett ?

If so I've never heard of one :)

No. I mean that I would like to use the voice of the Star Trek Enterprise spaceship as my voice for my applications on the desktop on my Windows or Linux system.

Windows doesn't use a TTS engine for that, it uses pre-recorded wav files.

This link may be of interest to the OP. It's not a theme, but it contains many wav files that you can associate with windows events by going to your control panel, double clicking "Sounds and Audio Devices" and then selecting the "Sounds" tab.

Don't forget to use "Save as" when you complete the changes!

I'm struggling to understand what you are after. Can you describe in a little more detail what you want your computer to do?

Okay. What I'm after is the posssibility to replace the inbuilt computer voice which the operating system uses (Windows or Linux) to the one from the spaceship in Star Trek Enterprise.

The inbuilt voice recognition libraries, in other words. Do they exist?

I doubt they are real. On tv shows, computer speech is done with a real person and a voice distorter.

Voice recognition? You didn't say that! LOL

OK, there are some VR and TTS things available, but don't expect it to work on all applications, or as well as Sci-Fi TV shows... or to sound like Majel Barret.

You can download the SAPI SDK, which includes Microsoft Agent.

Applications can be written to take advantage of the SDK to add text to speech and voice recognition to applications. Recognition is better than 90% with proper training of the engine and closed microphone systems, like a phone. Voices included are not the best. ATT Natural voices are better, but still sound artificial at times.

Software I currently own that utilizes Microsoft Speech includes Delormes Street Atlas Program, and Homeseer, a home automation control program.

All voice recognition programs work better when interpreting commands rather than just transcribing text.

The VR software that comes with Mac OSX for commands is actually pretty decent, and not too hard to extend to additional functionality.
