Downey Disses Dark Knight; 'Babylon' Director Slams Own Film

Sounds like RDJ thought TDK was pretencious for a superhero movie and lacked fun. I could agree with this on some level. I thought it was awesome, but those are opinions that have been expressed by others.

But Babylon AD looks like a big budget rip off of that crappy Van Dame movie Cyborg.

I've never head RDjr's comments before myself,

I'll never understand why people who don't like a certain movie will do their very best to punish other people in order to keep them from seeing it.
Where was he punishing anyone who wanted to see the movie? He voiced his opinion on it, in a dryly humorous manner that apparently came across as an epic diss in print. He didn't tell anyone not to go see TDK. He said he saw it and didn't get it (which I do think was probably true), the rest was just him joking around.

Which apparently was not the case with the other big summer movie "The Dark Knight". "My whole thing is that that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart. It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.' I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f--king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? F-ck DC comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."
clearly, said in all seriousness.

I've never heard of Babylon before. Hooray for Fox's marketing department!

I didn't either until just yesterday. I looked it up on IMDB and found a link to this interview with AMC.

"The scope of the original book was quite amazing," says Kassovitz. "The author was very much into geopolitics and how the world is going to evolve. He saw that as wars evolve, it won't be just about territories any more, but money-driven politics. As a director it's something that's very attractive to do."

"I don't see how people who went through all these amazing blockbusters like The Dark Knight and Iron Man this summer will take it."

DIRECTOR OF VIN DIESEL'S "BABYLON A.D." SAYS THE MOVIE SUCKS

"
French director Matieu Kassovitz ("La Haine," "Gothika") vented to AMCTV saying that he had a horrible time making "Babylon A.D.", the Vin Diesel sci-fi thriller opening this weekend.

Kassovitz stated, "I never had a chance to do one scene the way it was written or the way I wanted it to be. The script wasn't respected. Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible experience."

Why did he sign on to direct it? "The scope of the original book was quite amazing. The author was very much into geopolitics and how the world is going to evolve. He saw that as wars evolve, it won't be just about territories any more, but money-driven politics. As a director it's something that's very attractive to do."

Is the movie any good? "It's pure violence and stupidity. [Originally]all the action scenes had a goal: They were supposed to be driven by either a metaphysical point of view or experience for the characters... instead parts of the movie are like a bad episode of 24."

Who's to truly blame? According to him, it's distributor 20th Century Fox. "Fox was sending lawyers who were only looking at all the commas and the dots. They made everything difficult from A to Z."
What tipped the scale was when Fox edited the movie to a friendly 93 minutes. "I should have chosen a studio that has guts. Fox was just trying to get a PG-13 movie. I'm ready to go to war against them, but I can't because they don't give a s--t.""

A shame as I was debating on going to see it this weekend.
I think I'll pass now.

I had debated seeing this one, too. Looks like an easy skip, now.

How could a movie that uses Requeim for a Dream theme music* in its trailer be bad?

*Used in every fan made movie trailer online.
