Doug Drexler Visits Pocket Books

It's my hope that there might yet be a couple more books in the series….

Don't know if this was your intention, but this sounds like there isn't much more to the series?

It sounds to me like Dave was engaging in a common form of understatement, such as, "Oh, I think I've got a few more good years left in me." The words "at least" are implied in the usage.

Vanguard's an open-ended series; there's no carved-in-stone plan for how long it will continue. It can and will last as long as the sales figures justify its continuation. So we don't know in advance whether those sales will stay strong enough to keep doing it, so it's reasonable to say "I hope there will be at least a couple more books." But by the same token, nobody in or out of Pocket has any idea when the series will end, so there's no reason to assume that "a couple" is all there will be. I expect Pocket will keep publishing them as long as you guys keep buying them.

^One can only hope they live on. I'm hoping we get to see some large advances in the timeline at some point. I'd be pretty cool to see what was happening in the Taurus Reach in the 2270's, 2280's, etc. New crew members, new ships, endless possibilities...

Well, as long as the quality stays equal to first three I will definitely be buying them as long as they're publishing them.

I think I might have misunderstood, I thought he was saying that the next will bring things to a close, with maybe a couple more at the end to tie it up completely.

Is that Starbase under construction or under attack?

Looks like a bit of both to me...there's a ship towing in a part of the upper "mushroom" from what I can see, which suggests construction, but the orange bits on the lower bit look more like battle damage...

^ S'all good. Basically, I'd love to continue writing Star Trek Vanguard novels for a long time, but I don't want to start counting unhatched chickens.

That image of Spacedock under construction is better than anything in the '09 calendar. Looking forward to it.

I think you're gonna love it!

Just think of oil rigs at night. Sometimes they look like they are burning. :)

Glad everyone else can see the images of the upcoming 2010 SOFL calendar cause I can't for somereason. Grr... This totally sux right now.

I read the first Vanguard book and remember loving it when it first came out. I love the concept and the writing was excellent. After that I got so behind in my Trek reading. I have the other VGD books but I am thinking about going back to re-read the first. I can't even remember the characters.

Where can i get the image of your avatar Dayton? and all covers wtihout they text? They are great!

I don't have any versions of the cover art without text (at least, I don't think I do...I'd have to dig around). My av is simply an artfully cropped section of the cover, which you can see on my site.
I went Googling for a "clean" version of the artwork for Open Secrets (I have them for the first three books, all images that were posted here back in the day), and to my surprise I couldn't even find the previous ones. The closest I came was the version on Doug Drexler's site, but it has a watermark in the corner--not to mention slightly cropped on the bottom (compare it to the actual cover).
