With the kind of firepower the Trek-verse sports, ANY realistic hit with the shields down would blow the entire ship into tiny, radioactive metal shards.

You know, they've never really stuck with "The Cage's" figure that the phasers could "blast half a continent". But yes, with the firepower claims that Trek makes, those would be some impressively short space battle sequences if the writers would stick to their guns (no pun intended).
