Dorn Pitching Worf Movie

CBS would own the rights to a DVD release but they'd never approve it. Direct-to-DVD has a low-class image. Better that CBS do nothing with the brand than degrade it.

Anyway, DVDs are a dying technology. If CBS wants to get creative about distribution, they should skip DVDs entirely and go straight to streaming, hook up with Netflix and do a new series. In that case, they'd want a cast of hot new young actors and a new premise.

Maybe they'd revive one existing character for the show, and in that case, Worf makes as much sense as any, if only because it's easier to disguise the actor's age behind the makeup.

Put the hot young actors and the veteran Starfleet officer together and the premise becomes clear: the dreaded Starfleet Academy! :rommie:

(Which actually wouldn't have to be so dreadful. The cadets could be on space missions most of the time.)

I think a Smallville Trek, with a young Kirk and Spock at the academy, could work really well. Of course, it wouldn't really be Star Trek, but a teen sci-fi soap opera set in Trek's world.

On the other Worf thread I've expressed my support for the idea. I don't see why straight-to-DVD has to be seen as low class, especially in an age when web series are gaining popularity.

And Star Trek did start as a TV show after all, which at one time was considered lower than films (maybe they still are), despite the popularity/respectability of genre shows like Game of Thrones, Spartacus, or Walking Dead.

I've also long supported the Starfleet Academy idea. Some may groan but when I see stuff like MTV's Teen Wolf and even Vampire Dairies (especially the first two seasons), I think under the right direction that a show focusing on young cadets would be a way to bring a new generation of fans into Trek (as someone already mentioned a la Smallville).

I would watch a Worf movie/mini-series. He's not my favourite character, but I'd love for the prime universe to be continued.

As for the whole, Worf chasing terrorists plot idea, they have been seen in other episodes and he would be suited to pursue them. Though it would be interesting to see who they were (Romulans, Cardassians, etc) and what their objective was.

It would also be interesting to see what ship he would get. For that kind of mission I would say that a Defiant-Class would be well suited, or maybe a newer, small 'escort' ship.

I'd also love to see a few other characters return (I can imagine him and B'Elanna butting heads).

Worf has already been in 250 episodes and four movies. Honestly, I'm rather burnt out on the character. Then you factor in a regular Klingon character on Voyager and that they appeared multiple times on Enterprise and I'm pretty burnt out on Klingon non-sense in general.

My only question is how Worf gets promoted to Captain. I was under the impression that some of his actions in DS9 were career-limiting moves. He killed not one, but two Klingons in duel (Duras and Gowron), and allowed a defector to die in order to save Jadzia. Sisko even goes so far as to explicitly tell him so in Change of Heart. It'd be nice to know that 20 years later his service would have eventually afforded him a promotion. He was an extremely capable commander aboard the Defiant.

I've raised this point in a previous board. An excuse used was that it was only Sisko's opinion that he wouldn't get a command and/or his service record would speak for itself.

A better way to think about it is it was implied that Riker turning down command after command and then the truth about Pegasus coming out would have hurt his prospects for being given his own ship, but we saw him become Captain of the Titan in Nemesis.

Depending on how many years are between the incident in DS9 and the potential new film/mini series Worfs position and service could earn him the Captain's chair especially with the combination of the right mission profile and possible political pressure from Martok.

It would be 15 years. Current year in Prime universe chronologically is 2389, DS9: Change of Heart took place in 2374. Of course, they could always choose to make it whatever year they wanted, or even to reboot the franchise in a new TV series set after the events of Star Trek Online (2409).

I would buy this in a heartbeat, but it would need to be done with a decent budget. A straight to DVD film (if that's what this is) has me thinking of Babylon 5: The Lost Tales, or even worse, Legend of the Rangers. Both had me eager with anticipation and were just cheap and disappointing. Don't make a Worf movie just because you can scrape a shoestring budget together to do so.

In my opinion, I don't think it should be direct-to-DVD or anything like that ... just do a TV movie and stream it on Netflix. I'd watch it no problem. I'm still waiting for another Stargate TV Movie, but it doesn't look like they're gonna do it :(

Probably easier to do Direct to DVD since it's easier/cheaper to get out that way, so I guess that's why it's considered "low class."

Just a thought, with the destruction of Romulus, I wonder if the Treaty of Algeron would still be intact.
It certainly wasn't in "All Good Things," and Romulus was only conquered, not destroyed in that future history.
The treaty is an agreement between the Federation and Romulan governments, so despite the destruction of Romulus, there are only two considerations: 1) Does the Romulan government continue to operate, and 2) If yes, does the Romulan government have an interest in enforcing the terms of the treaty?

It could be the case that in the AGT alternate future, the Romulan government was disembowled right there. No government, no treaty, no neutral zone, cloaks for all. In the case of Romulus being destroyed by the Hobus "supernova", the Romulan government may yet still exist in exile, perhaps with an interest in enforcing the existing treaty. We don't have any canon indication either way.

Picard let the Duras thing go and only reprimanded him. As far as Gowron, Sisko all but practically told Worf to take care of Gowron.

Worf and Sulu, Private Investigators.
I've been screaming for a cop/detective/investigation show set in the Trek universe for years.

We will get a Captain Sulu series starring John Cho long before a Worf movie ever sees the light of day...
