don't shoot me but I like Norton Internet Security 2007

I thought I'd be making a post here requesting your thoughts about a new virus protection program but damn it, Norton 2007 seems to work pretty well.

I've used Norton for years, varyingly frustrated with its clunkiness and the fact that it was a resource hog. 2006 was by far and away the worst. My subscription runs out in about a month and I couldn't get away from Norton Internet Security 2006 fast enough.

Those sneaky bastards let me download Norton Internet Security 2007 a couple of weeks ago, just to tempt me. At the same time I cleaned up my registries and decided to go exclusively with Norton's protection, disabling all of Windows Defender and its firewall. Well, glory be, my computer hasn't worked this well in months. Norton 2007 does add a useless toolbar to IE7, which I use along with Opera and Firefox, and I can't seemingly get rid of that bar. But that's the only thing I don't like about it. My CPU usage has gone down to zero 98% of the time. It might pop up to 1% upon occasion. Never does my computer start going crazy all on its own. It was awful before. 5-6% usage was normal. I had to turn off my cable modem when I was doing multitracking music projects, modifying files gigabites in size. Otherwise my CPU usage would go up to 40-50% randomly and my computer would crash in the middle of doing a remix.

I still run SpyBot once a week and AdAware6.0 maybe once or twice a month. And of course I have everything plugged in through a router. I will also certainly research any thoughts you have about alternative virus protection programs. I don't mind paying for one if it was good and I certainly don't mind going back to ZoneAlarm's free firewall if necessary. I liked that program when I used it years ago. But, damn it, I'm not ashamed to say:

My name is Outpost4 and I like Norton Internet Security 2007. :D

And now that I've figured out how to get rid of the toolbar in IE7, I'm really a happy camper (I had to turn it off within IE7, not Norton).

My name is Gertch and I like Norton Internet Security 2007. I installed it around February replacing NIS 2005. My kids still like me because they can cruise Nickjr.com and not get any funny viruses. But the dog wont even look at me any more.

Yeah, I too like NIS 2007. I never had any memory/resources problems in previous versions.

Hello, welcome to the group. My problem is I like a drop of the hard stuff -- Norton 360. Just AV on its own doesn't do it for me.

Hello, my name is John, and I use AVG Anti-Virus. However, I love all of you very much, and as long as you're safe and your systems are running at optimal settings, I'm happy. :D

No, this needs a more drastic measure, shooting is not enough... *presses shiny red button*

Norton Internet Security has detected an intrusion attempt and blocked it

Whatever floats your boat I suppose, but don't count me amongst it's admirers. It is better than it's predecessors, but that's not saying much as they were some of the worst programmes I've ever had the misfortune to come across......
