Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

So much feedback! Thanks for everyone who let me know their preference. It's going to be hard deciding, but here are things as they stand as of tonight. Currently, I just have "Enterprise" above the observation deck, a little smaller than previously shown. I may change or tweak it later. I dunno. I'm so torn at this point!

Anyway, got the fueling station done and detailed the floor a bit more than it was previously. The black lines running from the turntable to the flight deck's aft wall are now inset into the floor, and not just "painted on".

I may end up detailing the fueling station a bit more by modeling a fuel hoze hookup underneath the "caps", and perhaps modeling a fuel hoze as well so I can do some renders of the shuttlecraft being refueled. Depends on whether or not I deem in important enough to do so. I don't think I'll feature any kind of interactive features to the fueling station so it may not be worth the time modeling all that out.

Also, I suppose "in-universe" this fueling station has six nozzles because it is capable of dispensing six different types of fuel which are commonly used by Federation and non-aligned spacecraft throughout known space. Let's say, for whatever reason, the Enterprise takes in a small non-aligned craft into the flight deck. Perhaps it doesn't use the same fuel as a Class-F shuttlecraft, and can therefore be refueled with the correct type of fuel before it departs, as a courtesy to small craft's pilot and crew.

Donny,

Love the version with just “Enterprise.” Is a microgramma the right font to use though? That seems more of a TMP and onward thing.

I think the word ENTERPRISE the size you have it is a fine compromise.

I don't find the Reliant hangar door-like numbers on the cargo doors very TOS-like, though. I can't recall seeing anything like that on TOS.

I know it's not popular, and the decision has been made already, anyway, but I've always been fond of the red UFP pennant and always thought it should have been used more, so I was going to vote #5 earlier, but I do agree that just ENTERPRISE in the best option.

I also tend to agree on the Reliant-esque door numbering seems off in the TOS era, but who knows...we never really did see an example of when it might have been used if given the opportunity.4

What a night I missed! The smaller, neat lettering of "Enterprise" looks very much at home in a TOS setting.

Like others, I feel that the observation gallery needs more windows - perhaps 3 groups of 2? One pair in the centre, and one pair over each of the hanger doors.

The spaces on the sides do look a little blank, but just having windows in the middle gels with what we see in Star Trek V, so I'm good with it.

Yes, but I'd say the windows in Star Trek V spanned about half or more of the available space, whereas these windows span more like one third. Part of the problem here is just the fact that the Enterprise A's shuttlebay is tiny.

That is because the refit and Enterprise-A shuttlebays were sized to fit the exteriors.

As far as the windows go, I'll experiment with the window placement a bit. However, adding more windows will require me to rework the sizes of the kit pieces I've made to construct the forward section of the observation deck, so it's not a small task. I'll do this when I swing back around to detailing the interior of the observation deck, which is coming up pretty soon on my "schedule".

Still harping on the markings: Did we ever see 1701 anywhere on the ship outside of, well, the outside? I'm not saying that this cant be an exception.

I'm leaning towards 1) the more minimal approaches and 2) keeping with what we've seen elsewhere on the ship. Which might just be U.S.S. Enterprise.

Dispensing with that, I like 2 and 6 because they reflect the signage that while has been associated with the ship and Starfleet, might not have had as strong of a connection. I'm sure there is someone here more steeped in naval tradition who could shine more light on this.

That isn’t microgramma. It’s the TOS hull font. I wouldn’t dare use microgramma on a TOS project.

Oh crap, you're right! Looked totally like microgramma on my tiny cell phone screen, but now that I have it on my computer I totally see that it is the TOS hull font. Sorry!
