It's too bad that five-point star feature that was so prevalent in TOS insignia has been so de-emphasized in modern signage.Unfortunately, they couldn't put the shit back in the horse, as it were. Justman's memo was clearly ignored throughout the series run. We have commodores and other flag officers with the starburst. You had the Exeter and Constellation with their own insignia, beyond the one used by the Antares' crew in "Charlie, X". Then you had the "fish" logo for the listening posts (like in "Balance of Power" and "Arena"), and in TAS they added the new pointy insignia for the Ariel in "The Eye of the Beholder" and another variant of the arrowhead for the Huron in "The Pirates of Orion". It became more canonical to have different insignias for the different ships throughout the entirety of the TOS/TAS era, and it wasn't until TMP came around that all uniforms once again used the arrowhead, which was retconned as an "homage" to the great things that Enterprise did during her career.

Was probably a cost-saving measure in TNG and beyond. They already had colored uniforms inferring department designations. The costuming department likely felt adding the star, planet, curvy-thing and red cross to the insignia was simply redundant and deprecated it for all 24th century uniforms.
Ew. Old picture.Assuming this is one of the circle hallways in the saucer, how did you come up with the measurements of the panels and how many degrees they are rotated around the center?
I didn't construct the corridors as you think. I literally built all the different widths of wall panels (there were several standard sizes, ranging from 1.5 feet to 6 feet IIRC) and then laid them out on top of a TOS stage diagram, rotating each piece as needed to match the set plans. Each piece was rotated differently, based on its width.
Therefore, there is no standard rotation size, but I could extrapolate the diameter for you.
Again, I'm not trying to create some crazy network of corridors that would actually fit inside the ship. I'm creating smaller sections of corridors to represent key areas of the ship.
The radius of the curved corridor (according to the original set plans) was 50'3" from the centre to the outer curved wall.
It's not easy to see the 50'3" but it can be calculated based on the other, clearer callouts on the page. The "radial beam" is the big one crossing the middle of the briefing room

Challenged myself to see how fast I could model and texture the TOS communicator. Started last night at midnight and finished just now at 7:30 pm. Whew!

Fantastic work Donny!
I did some more modifications today, namely some light scratches on the body and grille, and I also added a nameplate to the back. I know it's not canon, but it's fun to take some artistic liberties here and there. I'll probably add similar nameplates to the tricorder and phaser as well. The text is entirely conjecture, and borrows the "Starfleet R&D" text we later see on tricorders in TNG onward. Thoughts?

I'm not fond of the nameplate. It doesn't seem in keeping with the clean TOS aesthetic.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about it either. I'm even second guessing the screws. Luckily I can take both out easily if I decide to.
I like the nameplate, but I'd lose the screws.
