Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

The low ceiling over that bed would probably make some positions more difficult to attain while "entertaining guests." You'd think Roddenberry of all people would have pointed that out when they were designing the room. :p

I don't remember how exactly I came up with the figures, but I just checked my in-game measurements. The mattress and cushions themselves come out to be 4.5 feet wide by 8.5 feet long, the frame itself being roughly 5 feet wide by 10 feet at it's longest point.
Thanks Donny, and for all the other feedback guys.
Here is a picture which (I hope) better illustrates my dilemma:

MSGTTE%20compare%20to%20set2small_zps29ntup9g.jpg~original

This is the basic cabin set from MSGTTE (in red) overlaid on the Stage 9 set from http://pat.suwalski.net/film/st-stages/
The first thing to note (although my overlay is only rough) is how well the two align! Given that Lora had limited time to measure the sets and divine the angles of the walls, the results are splendid. But that is not my issue. My issue is with the scale bar.

Using the scale bar, the corridors come out at 10' wide - we know from other sources that they are 8'.
The bed frame measures 12'6" at its widest length; the mattress 10'3". Like the corridor, this is 25% larger than the measurements Donny calculated, measurements that match the proportions shown on the stage plan.

She said in her reply to you, though, that when she took those measurements, the mattress and upholstery were gone from the bed, so she was measuring the frame. Looking at this screencap of Captain Styles when he gets called to the bridge, he's laying along the forward edge of the bed, and there's a TON of space to his left. I could believe that once you take away the wedge-shaped upholstery you'd be left with a mattress that's about 4-1/2' to 5' wide.

Possibly, but a 5' wide mattress becomes a much more manageable 4' if the same 25% discrepancy is accounted for.
BTW, I do not suggest that Lora Johnson made this error randomly - I think it was necessary in order to fit her much wider corridors (with all those useful storage compartments) into the architecture of the existing set plan. What I do not understand is why she didn't just expand the overhead corridor views accordingly, instead of expanding the entire plan views. It's this expansion which led to real crux of my questions to her, that of the Rec Deck (http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/shan...to-the-enterprise.281282/page-7#post-11762630)

I keep bouncing from project to project. Worked on some Enterprise-A corridors this last weekend. Here's a video

I'd pay real money for a virtual tour of the Ent-A.

I really wish they'd painted the doors red, instead of leaving them as orange. I know they probably didn't want to muck about with the TNG sets too much, but surely a lick of paint would've been ok!

I've been tempted to do a more "idealized" version of these TUC sets, making certain changes to further differentiate the sets from their TNG counterparts. For example, I'd swap out the TNG warp-core for a more period-accurate version. And yes, making all the doors red would be nice (they only painted the inside of the doors of the quarters set and the Galley set, but left the outside of all the doors orange). However, the screen-accurate obsessiveness inside me screams to leave it all as it was. Thoughts?

Maybe I'll test out the doors tonight when I get home.

Those changes would be inspiring to see, especially the period-accurate warp-core as seen in TMP.

I'd love to see your version of the TUC Enterprise!

Personally, I have no problem with idealizing, especially if you're recreating the ship rather than the stage. And, besides, we saw so little of the corridors in TUC that I was surprised there weren't a couple of corpses when you walked through one of those doors.
