Donny's Late TNG Era Interiors

Spent the last few days modeling the Ent-B gold display model. I used Marc Bell's newly released Lakota model as reference, as it was readily available to me, and I've never modeled the Excelsior or its Refit before. This allowed me to more quickly generate a lower poly model for this usage rather than generate one from scratch.

As stated before, I want all the models to have a similar level of detail rather than the mismatched levels of detail that appeared in the movie (which was simply because Eaves ran out of time before he could sand down the B and D to match the others). I originally started modeling the B with less detail, but ended up adding more back in. I've decided that for all the models, I will be including everything except grid lines, windows, RCS thrusters, running lights, and the phaser banks on the A and B. I may leave out the phaser strips on the C, D, and E, but I'll cross that bridge once I get there. I feel like if I don't include phaser strips on those, they'll look relatively naked now in comparison with the detail-heavy B. But we'll see!

Re-watching that scene I forgot how much it bothered me that he really didn't actually break his little ships. Then seconds later the C and the D are suddenly broken so she can deliver that line.
He broke the spirits of his little ships, that's why they later fell apart :weep:

The real reason the ships broke: Data's cat was wandering around the ship and once Picard broke the glass, she saw her chance to finally knock those ships down.

Suddenly curious if Donny is going to put an easter-egg interaction on the case where you can smash it if you walk up to it while holding a phaser rifle. :D
I've considered that ;)

Knocked out the Ent-C pretty quickly, given it's probably the simplest one of the bunch (and I just modeled it for STO a few months ago, so it was a little bit of muscle memory ;))

Keep in mind that these are not and will not be scaled to each other, and the scales were all over the place in the movie:

IMHO, the B and C need to be bigger than they were in the movie. While I understand the pressures Eaves was working with to source and get the models ready, I want to refine the scales a bit to feel better. My working process for the scales now is to keep them all roughly 22 inches in length, (which is the length of the TOS and A models used on set), except for the B and E, which are longer in proportion. For those I'll be scaling them up proportionally from 22 inches so that their saucers are as at least wide as the others, so that they all feel roughly similar. I'll probably have to tweak things a bit once I get the D and E modeled and see how everything looks, and like I said before.

Nice!

But... What if they... weren't?

Are you saying try making them scaled appropriately in respect to each other? The issue I foresee with that is that the TOS and A would have to be pretty damn small if the bigger ships were scaled down enough to fit in that glass case. There’s not as much room width-wise as you’d think in there.

Either way, I’m gonna try it out, but I don’t have high hopes. At this point I think the best bet and what would look best without breaking too far outside of what we saw on-screen would be making them all roughly the same (with the exception of the B and E being a bit longer due to their lengthier proportions )

Yeah, more of a "what would it look like?" You're right, it probably won't be as visually appealing. Of course the flip side is that since you aren't tied to an existing off the shelf model is you can scale the to however they look best!

They weren’t in perfect scale, but they at least increased in size consistently from E-mill (and the carrier) up to E-D. They were all custom made, IIRC (as opposed to gold-plated off-the-shelf model kits), so they did try to show some upscaling of the designs as they progressed through the decades.
