I find it amusing that the final episode of this series is a direct sequel to an episode that never aired on Fox... Sucks if you never saw it ;)

This show would have been so much better if 2 things were changed from the start
#1)Eliza Dushku being the lead. She's ok in small doses as a supporting character, but as the lead in a show where she's supposed to be displaying different personalities when she has basically 1 range? Not a good idea.

#2)The glorification/sexualization of the Dollhouse. It's one thing for Deadwood to present its whores, we know what they are, they know what they are, and it's not glorified. It's another to see this show basically have people like Adelle/Topher/the handlers allowing and conducting mindless fuck-toys for the rich and powerful to play with and never questioning it.

If it had been from the start that the Dollhouse was used as some kind of covert ops thing and the bosses went rogue I could probably have stomached that more then what it was and ultimately that's what drove me away from the show in S1.

S2 was a lot less of that.

BTW, in the previous episode thread I posted about a quote I saw on a blog a while back about Joss talking and saying he had two tricks reveals for his writing "killing someone or making them gay." well he used both in this episode :p

But probably the biggest question I have revolves Alpha/Echo/Paul. What version of Paul was on that disk? Did he at sometime back himself up? Or did Alpha when he swiss-cheesed Paul's brain actually download that Paul into himself and that ultimately is what led to his redemption? So then he put him back on a disk for Echo and it was Original Paul .

Eventhough Amy could only film 3 eps this season, her character of Whiskey was still alive at the end of E1 right or was I mistaken? I can't remember if she sacrificed herself to save the rebels and get the girl to become Caroline, while in the doll state

it's assumed Whiskey died along with the others she gassed. So the show gives us at least 2 major martyrs for the cause - Whiskey and Topher. I saw in the opening credits another Dushku - what is his relation and who did he play?

I am glad I was able to screen Epitaph 1 on dvd right before the finale. Fox should've aired them both back to back.

My take was that it was Paul as of Alpha ripping out his brain, which would also have been the same wedge they used to make Doll-Paul. So Head-Paul would only remember the ten-year bulk of his relationship with Echo from her perspective. But, on the other hand, this Paul is still in love with her for the first time, and doesn't have to relearn it like Doll-Paul did.

IDK, after a run of several excellent eps. in a row.... "Epitaph Two" kind of left me feeling underwhelmed. The previous ep. felt like the real series finale. Last night's ep. felt tacked on, like I was missing an ep. somewhere. Almost certainly because I never saw "Epitaph One".

Now this is better. I was quite disappointed with The Hollow Men and I'm glad we got E2 as a send off. It wasn't perfect, it didn't reveal any new bits of story that would have eased my concerns over The Hollow Men's simplistic villain-tries-to take-over-the-world plot, and it did leave us hanging as to the fate of some of the supporting characters, but overall I think it did a good job of what it actually tried to do, which was to give us some closure for the main characters as well as some semblance of redemption for characters that would otherwise have remained basically immoral unlikeable personas.

I'm not sure why everyone finds the sex thing a problem, I never saw it as a glorification, it was a deal where someone could get their fantasy fore filled and many times that includes sex. I feel bad for Alpha in a way, he had been able to find peace, moved on and became a rather calm person and that's all gone.

Good to see a couple people got somewhat a happy ending though.

Finally got a chance to see it and I thought it was excellent.

I loved Epitaph One and I think the sequel continued things nicely. I thought they did a great job with the apocolyptic world they created here. They could have used a few more episodes to finish up the series but otherwise, it was a satisfying finale which managed to wrap up the loose ends.

Fran Kranz did a great job tonight, really turning Topher into a tragic character. I was sorry to see him go but it made sense with his story arc. I loved the Adelle/Topher relationship too and that played off strongly. Good guy Alpha was a surprise to see but Alan Tudyrk did a great job as always and I loved his dark humor when he joked about Viktor's face. I'm not exactly sure what Alpha's fate will be but maybe that's good that it was left a mystery.

I was angry with Paul's sudden death and Echo's heartless response though I was glad when she broke down later. That being said, Echo/Caroline wasn't exactly the most sympathetic character on television. She could be downright unlikeable and self-centered. I'm glad they didn't go the stereotypical female route by having Echo die unhappy at the end. Come to think about it, the women didn't do too good tonight. Echo lost Paul, Adelle lost Topher (they all lost men), Meg was crippled, and Tony walked out on Siera, though they reunited. I guess they did go the stereotypical female route tonight.

I'm also curious about the fate of Mr. Dominic. I wonder if he'll pop up on a DVD deleted scene or extended version. He remains one of the only loose threads.

So Dollhouse comes to an end. I'll miss it. The series wasn't perfect but it was a fun ride with some terrific characters and interesting stories. We can be grateful that unlike most cult favorites in recent years, it got a second season.

Thanks, Dollhouse!

I'm thinking tossing Paul into the mix is how Alpha became sane. Paul is just badass that way. I like how Echo went to her bunk after getting Paul in the brain. :D BTW, did I miss at which point Echo started thinking of herself as Caroline again? I guess she cleaned house too. :)

It's implied that she refered to herself as Caroline between the events of "The Hollow Men" (Ep 2x12) which is set in 2010 (supposedly) and "Epitaph One"/"Epiatph Two" (1x13/2x13) which is set in 2019-2020. Although, there might have been earlier references to it in the ending of season two, I think most times Echo kept referring to herself as; and insisted on being addressed/considered as Echo.

Paul most likely is the reason why Alpha calmed down, as most of his other personalities didn't give a shit one way or another about what was right and wrong (with some finding the wrong hilarious), and Paul has been proved to be pretty strong willed.

Very good ending to the show. My number one thing I wanted to see was the story of how Alpha became a good guy. Oh well.

Ditto

Edit:

Personally, I think Alpha will probably regain all his imprints eventually. Echo probably didn't need to stay underground, for that matter... [I could be off-base on that one.] Also, I would be curious how the "serum" might have affected that pulse's affects...

It's amazing Paul's personality didn't turn Alpha into a stalker. ;)

Alpha was already a stalker, remember? How close do you have to be following someone to know who they're not having sex with?
