Doing things at the last second

So here i am, it's 2am and i'm cleaning/organizing my appartment because in about 8 hours i'm getting my tonsils removed in the hospital.

Additionally i have a wardrobe, a desk and a coatrack to assemble which i have been putting off for quite some time now.

Reason for this? My dad is coming over from their home (which is about 1000km away) because he needs some medical checkups and when my parents do that they stay at my place. They've never caught my appartment (at least this one ) in a dirty, messed up state and i don't intend it to be this time too. Problem is that i might run out of time assembling the furniture even though i told them i was there half way but since my workload has been so heavy (at least this one wasn't a "bended truth" ;)) i didn't finish it.

So anyone else a lazy idiot like me who does his stuff at the latest possible moment (and achieving it 80-90% of the time) or are you a responsible type who does his stuff early and then can lay back when the deadline arrives?

I might not check in for the next few days since i won't be bringing my laptop to the hospital but i'm looking forward to your stories ;)

Count me in the lazy idiot side. Hell, it's 2am and I'm working on my dissertation because I have to turn it in this week and I still have a lot of stuff do to... and yet I'm here posting on TrekBBS.

I'm just the opposite. I do everything early. I *hate* having things put off till the last minute. When I fly, for example, I will quite happily show up at the airport 3 hours early. Just because I like to. And even though I travel so lightly that it literally takes me only 2 minutes to pack, I'll do it like 2 or 3 days before I leave.

I will also show up at baseball games about two hours early. Mostly because 1) I don't really know how long it will take to get there, 'cuz I have to figure rush hour subway travel times, and 2) I just like to wander around the ballparks and explore. And eat.

I procrastinate like anything. I like to think it comes from being very efficient - I know I can do things very quickly when I need to, and don't like doing chores/tasks anyway, so will postpone anything "not fun" for as long as I can. :D

I'm a lazy procrastinator who goes to pieces under pressure in last-minute situations.

Shit.

:(

I had almost two months to arrange Redemption Song (Bob Marley) for male voice choir. My director contacted me Sunday and said "where is it?" and "we need to give the guys something on Wednesday".

I'm so bad! hehehe I started it out of guilt!!!

It's in her email now! LOL!

I'm a total procrastinator, too. I don't get any inspiration until I have a deadline looming over my head, but once the deadline is there, I thrive. Occasionally, I'll have to pay the price for procrastinating, but it pays off just often enough that it removes the incentive to change my ways.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Every time I tell myself, that I will get things done in time this time. But I fail again and again and suddenly it's 2 AM in the morning and I have to hurry and work under pressure to get my work done - which was fine while I was still studying but I really whish I could develop some more discipline here. I'm not 24 anymore. *Sigh*. Next time, definitely ...

Do I procrastinate? Interesting question. I'll have to think about that some time and get back to you all.

I feel that if I have x amount of time, then I might as well allow things to span that time, rather than completing something hurriedly early on, or leaving it all to hurry through last minute. So I'm in favour of doing things at a comfortable pace, and whenever I feel like it, and hurrying up if I think I'm a bit behind schedule.

I do prefer to work to deadlines though and I feel I manage my time well.

I also take pride in what I do, and I try to do things well... as long as it's something meaningful :)

There's nothing like a time limit to really concentrate the mind.

When I was doing committee work for University, I often found myself in a small panic over how to do things, but having thought about the problem and outlined the solutions over the space of an hour or so (and with the help of a phonebook ;)) I found I would have made quite a bit of progress, leaving the rest of the work to fall into place by itself.

Nowadays, I try to plan things out as best as I can - but of course I find I plan out the wrong things... :p

Totally agree. Give me a deadline and you'll get the work on tme. Don't give me a deadline, and... well... I'll go read. LOL!
