DOFP: The Fate of Mystique

Spoilers, of course.

...

So I'm not talking about what happens to young Mystique at the end of the movie. Her character arc will no doubt see more focus in "Apocalypse."

I'm wondering about something that we probably won't ever see:
What happened to her in the Alternate Future?

When Wolverine wakes up at the end of the movie, we see that Jean and Scott are alive and well as a result of the timeline being altered.

But what of Mystique? What of Magneto? How did the changes in DOFP affect their characters? Could Mystique be a good guy now? Perhaps even a member of the X-Men? I have a hard time believing that she'd go back to Magneto after he attempted to kill her.

I have a feeling we'll never see the the "present-day" X-Men again. The series seems to be continuing with the First Class characters in earlier decades, so anything we say will clearly just be speculation. DOFP was just as much Raven's story as it was Wolverine's, but we don't get to see where she ends up in the future. Dead? Cured like she was in X3? (though judging from Magneto's future, the cure doesn't hold up all that well).

She was replacing Stryker at the end and was in charge when the police recovered Wolverine. She said that she would take him into her custody at least implying that she may run a different version of the Weapon X program.

I also got the implication that the alternate Wolverine hadn't lost his memory at some point, which is why he taught history.

Since Wolverine didn't pop his claws out, I'm not sure if he still has metal or his original bone claws.

But it's safe to assume that X3 no longer happened and Wolverine Origins no longer happened since the Deadpool movie seems to be avoiding it completely. Based on the set photos he's pretty much identical to the comics version with a scarred body under the suit.

Definitely possible, though one wonders if she'd still be doing that 30 years (or however many years it's been) later.

The future ending was left vague so that they wouldn't have to avoid contradicting in the next movies. No point showing Mystique and Magneto, there future lays in the unseen so far past.

Well, Mystique probably isn't going to be as close to Magneto as she was in the original timeline, but she still seemed to get over his trying to kill pretty quickly in the movie. If she had any particular reason to do so, I don't think she'd have any problem working with him in the future. The only question is how much benefit of the doubt she's willing to give to the humans, now that they supposedly aren't bothered by mutants as much as the otherwise would've been.

Also, the X3 cure didn't last past the end of that movie. There's a scene at the very end where Magneto is already getting his powers back.

^No doubt because the "cure" was seen by the body as a virus and like any virus the body tried to fight it.

Or it could be like any other drug and need more doses to continue it's effects. A person doesn't only take one asprin in their lifetime.

I just saw the movie on Saturday, I missed the DOFP thread but I thought this was the best Xmen movie of all. I really liked it, grade A for me. My only complaint was that the future Sentinels looked too much like the Destroyer from Thor.

I was surprised that Trask's major was Stryker, and then Mystique. Does that mean Weapon X never happened?

And about what set of characters are next, they could go either way. I'd like to see Patrick Stewart as Professor X again, but I also like the younger Pf. X. If they use one in the next movie, that doesn't mean they couldn't use the other in another movie, right?

I read somewhere last year (Deadline? Hollywood Reporter?) that Days of Future Past was supposed to be the swan song/finale for the original characters, and that Apocalypse will be the finale for the "First Class" characters so they can reboot the franchise. I tried to find it, but it sounds like it's a pretty waffle-y subject. Any news on this?

I can't remember where, but I think I recall 'soft boot' being applied. I don't think it'll be a 'do over', but I think there will be a lot of new characters and maybe more recasts for older characters still around.

"Apocalypse" is already recasting Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm. It would be weird to reboot the series yet again after that movie.

Well, it's younger versions to be fair. No more than First Class "recast" Xavier, Magneto, Beast & Mystique

ie. Famke Janssen is now 50, Sophie Turner is 19...

A recast to me is more something like Mark Ruffalo taking over from Ed Norton, or Don Cheadle taking over from Terrence Howard.
