I can picture Romulans feigning a desire for reunification when their actual goal would be to subsume the remnants of Vulcan culture, while it is weak.

Yes. This situation makes Romulans more dangerous to Vulcans and by extension, to the Federation, which now has to be responsible for Vulcan security.

Some interesting drama could be made from this situation. Let's hope JJ or someone sees it.
