Does Trek XI polarize the Trek fanbase..?

It seems to me, that more so than ANY other Trek film people are extremely divided over Trek XI. It has already led to heated discussions... Some people call it the best Trek film ever made, others call it a catastrophy for the future of Trek... Some say it's an alternate timeline, while others claim it erases 40 years of Trek canon.... Does Trek XI polarize the fanbase..?

Untill last Sunday night I thought it would. I was One of those who hated the idea of changing "my" Trek. I was sure Star Trek was dead and expected to hate the movie and leave angry and sad.
What happened was something very different. What I saw was a hughly entertaining move full of action and humor with enough of "my" Trek to make me smile to myself more than once. I even bought a new Enterprise for the old collection.
So the King is dead. Long live the King. Heres to another 40+ years of StarTrek.

Yes quite. Polarisation implies, to me at least, some sort of significant split. The fanbase mostly seems to love this movie, those that don't are just screaming particularly loudly this time.

Not always. I think there's a general opinion with Trek fans that TWOK is a good film and Nemesis sucks, even though there will always be some that disagree on both accounts.

With this film, I really sense an 'either love it or hate it'-feeling with many Trekfans around (even though I do think that MOST Trekfans find it to be an excellent film, myself included!).

True. I think you'll find there's always less need for discussion when one approves of the material at hand.

I've yet to find the "waaahhh, Kirk's eyes are blue in the film, yet they're brown in the novel, what the fuck" thread.

The fanbase has already been segmented/polarized ever since TNG and it's sequels came out, each show has its faction. Plus some Trek fans just love to whine about everything anyway.

Personally i dont see the need for a Khan film, when the last two rehashed TWOK anyway.

As to the question, it implies that the new film has torn the fanbase apart, when i dont believe it has. Some of us dislike the film, myself included, but no trek has ever been universally liked. All that has happened is the same thing that happens everytime something new has been released - some like it, some dont, and we spend the next several years debating it.

Maybe this is what Khan meant when he said he intended to keep on hurting Kirk. Star Trek would never be able to escape Khan again.

Are you kidding? Episodes of ToS "polarized" the fan base. As to canon... they have been messing with the story of James R. Kirk since "Where No Man has Gone Before." I think Trek fans (myself included) just love to argue, speculate and yeah even nitpick a little.

Speaking of that episode... Might be cool to see a revamp of that. Since Mitchell might not be on the ship this time... maybe Spock... I wonder if Quinto has the skills to play a Spock infected with that kind of power.
