Does the Dominion something similar to Peregine Class fighters?

In most of the fleet battle scenes, we see wave after wave of the peregine class fighters fight against much larger dominion/cardassian cruisers/battleships. But I don't think we ever saw an instance of a peregine taking on something similar to its own size during fleet battles. Why is that?

Also, in one scene of "Sacrifice of Angels." We have the following exchange.

"There are more than 1200 Dominion vessels waiting for us."

"They outnumber us 2 to 1."

When Bashir is referring to their own fleet having only 600 vessels, if he counting the Peregine class fighters? I sure hope not because the fighters seem like they are no better than canon fodder in all of the fleet battles.

The size difference between the fighters and the smallest known Dominion designs is still considerable; something like 15-20 m vs. 50-100 m, depending on the ways the fighters, the Jem'Hadar attack ships or the Cardassian Hideki vessels are scaled in the various shots. There doesn't seem to be a Dominion ship category that would quite match the fighters, then.

OTOH, the fighters only appear in very small numbers even in that "Sacrifice of Angels" battle - dozens instead of hundreds or thousands. In contrast, the Jem'Hadar attack ships appear to form the bulk of the Dominion forces, or at least are more common in relation to other Jem'Hadar ship types than, say, the Hidekis are in relation to the Galors. I guess Starfleet isn't counting its own fighters, but is counting the enemy attack ships despite their somewhat compact size...

The fighters are probably way out of their depth in striking against capital ships; a veteran Starfleet Captain once derisively called them "armed shuttlecraft", suggesting they have no business fighting with or against their big sisters.

weren't the starfleet fighters used quite extensively in "What We Leave Behind" as well?? I'll have to go back and re-watch that episode tonight.
