Does Rory remember?

It wasn't a reboot but a reset and since Allyn provided us with this intriguing proposal he should be the one to explain it ;)

Yeah but it's a lot easier to be macho when you're made out of solid plastic and have laser guns built into your hands, than when you go back to being just another regular mortal human!

Not "macho", just more secure. He's had two thousand years to think about who he is. Even without the plastic and lasers, there should be some trace of the Rory who pulled the Pandorica from a burning warehouse and faced-down a Dalek. He remembers that. It should influence the character, and if Rory's going to continue to be the same, old, goofy dweeb, then the writers have cheated him of important development.

Part of Rory's character is that he's funny and comical. That doesn't have to be a devolution of his character's "manliness". I don't get that logic. There's no reason for him to act that way now. He has Amy. He's proven himself to the Doctor. The Doctor respects and understands how important he is to Amy. That aspect of his character should be minor. Also I agree with Starkers.

But that comic aspect comes largely from being insecure. He's a young man who's desperately in love with a girl he's certain will fall for someone more handsome/brave/smart than he is. He's desperate to prove himself, but is so intent on doing so that he trips all over himself and ends up comically embarrassing himself. He thought growing a pony tail would make him more suave!

To be true to the character, really true to the idea that this guy killed his true love, then stood guard over her body for two thousand years, there has to be some change. Even if he has dual memories of having a normal life and being plastic man, he's going to develop. He should be more self-assured at the very least. The comic aspect of his character should be more mature.

Okay, so if Rory and Amy remember but didn't actually live their time with the Doctor thanks to the reboot--how did Amy still have a "Raggedy Doctor" in the reboot?

Because little Amelia remembered her encounter with the Doctor even though it never happened. For her it was like a dream.

I agree. Besides, it was his conviction that he was still, at the core, human, that made him decide to stand guard over her instead of taking the easy way out by jumping through time.

"Why do you have to be so...so human?"
"Because right now I'm not."

So no longer being plastic shouldn't make him less self-assured and confident, since it was his inner humanity that allowed him to become the Centurion down through history.
