Does Quarks serve real booze?

Not sure if I'm remembering this correctly but didn't Seven of Nine get hammered on Synthale in one Voyager episode?

Wasn't that meant to be something to do with her Borg implants interacting with it, and the human characters were surprised?

Yes. It was the Doctor who noticed. She should not have been able to get properly drunk on synthahol-based champagne.

Scotty, on the other hand, did indeed keep a supply of the real stuff in his quarters.

you have to consider if the do gooders on the enterprise d had real booze in ten forward then sure as hell quark is gonna have a bunch. in fact im sure a hell of a lot of it was actually poison.

That's what soda is for. No, synthehol is intoxicating, but you can shrug off its effects with an effort of will. That's what makes it different.

I disagree since Quark had Starfleet people in his bar and since synthehol can be shrugged off whilst alcohol cannot and he would cater to everyone to keep the Starfleet types sweet.

synthehol
Episode: TNG 178 - Family

Generic name for all types of artificial achoholic beverages whose intoxication effect is all illusion and not chemical. Synthale is the synthetic version of ale or beer, for example, commonly programmed into Starfleet crew replicators as an alternative to the long-lasting detrimental effects of natural overimbibing. The pleasurable stimulus can be shrugged off at any time, but any potency of liquor is available.
Robert Picard groused that his brother's apparent loss of palate came from drinking too much artificial synthehol, but Picard said that it only heightened his appreciation for the real thing.

Data finds some good stuff behind the bar in Ten-Forward in "Relics" for Scotty.

Scotty: What is it?
Data: It is...(smelling)...it is green.

:bolian:

I remember there was an Ezri-centric episode where some young starfleet officer is drunk and walking to his quarters saying that he "had never had the real stuff before" or something to that effect.

It's worth noting that he got shot shortly after. Alcohol = bullet in the chest. Here endeth the lesson.

Who says you can't learn from TV? ;)

Quarks is more than just a glorified replicator, he talks often about serving "real" booze. Frankly for that reason alone, I think I'd prefer DS9 to some of the other, uptight Federation ships.

Ten Forward is a little different from "Quarks," though... okay, it's a lot different.

If you're referring to the time she told people, of she and the Doctor, "We are as one, we are as one", I believe they were drinking real champagne to celebrate the quantum slipstream drive. I could be mistaken though.

Of course! Don't you know that Intrepid class starships carry exactly 141 glasses of real champagne?

That was replicated alcohol, or "synthohol". Seven's body simply didn't have the ability to break down the alcohol in her system and she got drunk anyway.

This is just a guess, but I think sythnohol was created so a person would still lose their inhibitions, but not get any of the nastier side-effects.
