Does janeway/seven make more sense then janeway/chuckles

Admiral Janeway came across that way I'm afraid.

"Hello Seven."

"... People who LOVE you."

There was a BIT of an arc to the Seven/Chakotay romance, what with Seven in effect spurning the Doctor's tentative advances and choosing to "practice" with a Chakotay hologram instead. I agree it wasn't fleshed out or given enough time in the overall scheme of things, but I think the Chakotay/Seven pairing makes much more sense than Janeway/Seven. I believe Janeway's feelings for Seven were more maternal in nature... she was after all responsible for her "rebirth" as a human.

I think Doctor/Seven was the pairing that would have made the MOST sense. THAT'S what I wanted to see.

Well the Doctor was definately holding a torch for Seven, what hetero-male wasn't though?

But, women don't always go for men "that make sense" to them. Chakotay knows how to communicate with women (Look how easily he communicates with Kathryn, and all the women aboard...). He knows how to be gentle, charming, suave, listen, give, and when to take control. Seven saw that confident, leader-like quality in him balanced with that gentle side. Plus, look at that smile (especially those dimples), and the confident look in his eyes. He is a romantic, take charge type of guy. It wasn't just Seven, but plenty of other women on that ship that desired to be with Chakotay, too.

Seven may not like a bald, selfish, narcissistic, arrogant, self-absorbed, and overbearing hologram like the Doctor, and consider him to be "just a friend." He is annoyingly ALL OVER EVERYTHING, and tries to be in control all the time. There is no room for Seven in that relationship, because ultimately the Doctor only cares about himself, his requirements, and his accomplishments. How he can best help her, and so forth. He has a lot of learning to do when it comes to the whole "give and take" of relationships.

I always saw the Janeway/Seven relationship was more mentor/student than anything else.

As for J/C that didn't really grow on my till the second half of the show for some reason. I guess I got hit over the head enough with it that I finally caved. ;)

Chakotay/Seven makes more sense to me than Janeway/Seven, but that doesn't mean I like it. Janeway/Chakotay was it for me and I totally threw my dummy out of my pram over C/7 :)

Great post though, Good Will Riker

Janeway/Seven or Janeway/Chuckles makes the most sense to me. Janeway had a lot of chemistry with many characters including Tom Paris, the emh, hell even Seska. Oddly enough she had zero chemistry with Mark and I never understood why she went out with him in the first place. It always came off as more of a pity relationship then anything.

From the book Mosaic, Mark was pretty much a rebound relationship after her first husband-to-be died along with her father in that shuttle crash.

Mark had always been in her life, but he was the nerdy and annoying little boy that tried to be her friend when all she wanted was for the geek to leave her alone. Then, all of sudden, after her deep depression, he comes along and sweeps her off her feet.

So, yeah, there's my Janeway trivia for the day...

As for as who had the better matchup, I really saw J/C in the first half of the series, but that all got blown to hell when Janeway made the alliance with The Borg and Chuckles disobeyed her. That whole stack of cards just fell. After that, there was period when it was tense but friendly, and they eventually fell into an easy friendship. But, any romance was over if there was even a real chance of one to begin with.

J/7 is a favored pairing of mine. But, in all rights, they were very much mentor/student. HOWEVER, there have been plenty of times throughout history where that pairing did wind up turning into something. That circumstance makes the most sense to me.

something simular hapend to me, and I broke up with him. now I'm looking for a sweet girl...

so from my perspective it would only be logical Janeway starts looking for a girl. Maybe not seven, or somebody else she has comand over.. Maybe some interesting female alien ambassador? (maybe one with more then two breasts? we all know Janeway loves staring at them)

I read this book 11 years ago. And, I don't care what Jeri Taylor says: "Mosaic" is not canon.

"Star Trek: The Animated Series," on the otherhand, is.

But the best part about this book was when a freshman cadet Janeway was smitten by the senior hunk William Riker on campus at Starfleet Academy. I don't know about all of you, but I would not have minded if a young Will and young Kathryn hooked up briefly back then.

I have a theory that the reason C/7 happened is because J/7 and J/C never happened. It's one of those "neither one of use can have her but we can have each other" kinds of things.

It's as good a theory as any other!

C/7 happened because I think the writers felt like they could do whatever they wanted and **perhaps** deliberately screwed with character dynamics in the end to get back and certain actors/actresses.

I mean, think about it, Beltran talks constantly about the crappy producers and writing throughout the series until he's basically taken off the map and then in the final episodes he shows back up and does something his character would never do - date Seven. By that point, Beltran was probably like "Screw this, I don't even care about how absurd this looks - they haven't listened to me before...so just give me my lines."

For Seven, maybe the writers were tired of her pointless romance with the Doctor because they obviously had NO intention of making that happen (biggest tease in Trek, IMO). They probably got lazy and said, "What's something we can do with Seven that is new but doesn't require 5 million dollars in SFX shots of a Borg Cube?...hey, let's have her become attracted to Chakotay for no reason whatsoever!"

I think that also by that point the writers and producers knew the Janeway / Chakotay thing wouldn't have worked because people would have been like, "You waited til' NOW to do this? This could have happened in the first season!"

So they chickened out, made Janeway this eternal bachelorette hell-bent on getting her crew home and said the heck with all that setup they established between J/C throughout the series.

It's weird, who KNOWS what the producers/writers were thinking!!!

Janeway/Seven makes no sense to me because homosexuality in general makes no sense to me.

^^^ Yeah, I don't know what you J/7 people are smokin'....that relationship is a retarded idea.

Not only would it NEVER get done, it wouldn't make ANY SENSE in the world of Trek that had been established in Voyager. It would serve no practical purpose.

...not that the Chakotay/7 thing does... :)

The things is, most relationships on Trek serve "no practical purpose". That is one of the unfortunate weaknesses of the franchise.

It must be kept in mind that just because one doesn't see the subtext doesn't mean that it isn't there.

Example) In the start of the series, the real subtext was between Paris and Janeway, but it was quickly written off when it became semi-apparent that Janeway/Chakotay had some chemistry on screen together. A lot of people didn't/don't see that, and, I think, a lot more have forgotten about it.

Sans writers, producers, and such... just looking at characters and stories, J/7 has just as much of a place in the minds of the fans as J/C. There really is as much chemistry, there's quite a bit of subtext, and, as I've said before, mentor/student has been shown countless times in history to turn into something more.
