Does CLB have a new book for Trek Lit 2012?

Star Trek: Typhon Pact: Civil Disobedience [Kindle Edition]

Just saw this over at Amazon and first thought that comes to mind is: Huh? Wa? Kindle only? Is this even legit?

Re: Star Trek: Typhon Pact: Civil Disobedience [Kindle Edition]

Christopher has said only that the title is wrong, and not answered any other questions. So it's something, but Kindle-ness, release date, etc... your guess is as good as mine, or anyone else's.

Re: Star Trek: Typhon Pact: Civil Disobedience [Kindle Edition]

Well he put this in another thread when it came up:

As for the other, I'll just say that the title is wrong.

I did ask in the same thread if it was wholely wrong or aspects of it. As he hasn't replied, I suspect he is ignoring me which I actually find pretty damn amusing.

Re: Star Trek: Typhon Pact: Civil Disobedience [Kindle Edition]

^As I explained, I can't say anything more until the contracts are signed. That's not a personal caprice, it's the way the profession works. I considered giving some kind of cleverly obscure reply to your question, but I feared it might give too much away.

But the contracts should be along any day now, so I'm told.

Well, if it technically does not yet "exist", how the hell does Amazon know about this? And why would they say it's only a Kindle version?

It seems that whenever an ISBN is applied for by Pocket/Gallery, it triggers something at Amazon to generate a placeholder catalog entry. That's also why some old, cancelled ST titles pop up in searches every now and then.

Hmm...well, thank you Amazon, for piquing our interests....

I wonder if this will pick up on the "shock" ending of ZSG...?

I'm hoping for a time travel story that involves Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, the anti-slavery movement, and the Mexican War.

Why should Doctor Who have all the celebrity historical fun? :)

Re: Star Trek: Typhon Pact: Civil Disobedience [Kindle Edition]

The title isn't correct and who knows how much more of the information is correct? The price, at $5.99, implies to me that this may be more of a novella. $5.99 has traditionally been the price-point for S&S ebook only novellas like S.C.E./C.O.E., Slings & Arrows and Mere Anarchy.

Like I said though, who knows how much, if any, of the data is actually accurate? October is a loonnngggg way away.

I hope it's not Kindle exclusive, cause if so I will not be getting it.

Re: Star Trek: Typhon Pact: Civil Disobedience [Kindle Edition]

From my personal experiences at my day job at Zenith Press, I can tell you that publisher databases are now linked to Amazon in a birth-of-Skynet kind of way, so preliminary information often turns up on Amazon automatically. Titles, covers, and synopses can all turn up online long before details are finalized.

Wow, that's almost kinda scary.

i'll start worrying when it hacks the DoD network and decides we're all a threat and launches America's ICBMs...

Well, according to Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Skynet goes online next Tuesday, April 19, 2011, and launches the missiles two days later. So one way or another, we'll know soon... :borg:

It can be frustrating and embarrassing depending on what not-ready-for-prime-time material goes public by getting entered into the database earlier than it should have been. Or stuff like the author's name being misspelled all over the internet. The big sites like Amazon get fixed by a corrected feed, but most of the small resellers out there rarely update their info and you're stuck with it. :brickwall:

The problem seems to have been resolved, but, for a while, it was a neverending battle to convince amazon that "Richard Matheson" and "Richard Christian Matheson" (his son) were not the same person!

I got really tired of seeing I Am Legend, for example, attributed to Richard Christian . . . .

^To confuse things even more, Richard Christian Matheson is the brother of Chris Matheson, co-writer of the Bill and Ted movies. I only just found that out by checking IMDb; I've always assumed they were the same person. IMDb even says they often get their work attributed to each other by mistake.

You'd think someone as wildly imaginative as Richard Matheson could've come up with less repetitive names for his kids... ;)

And then there is the screenwriter Melisa Mathison who is no relation to Richard, but people don't always realize this. More than I once I've had to explain that "no, Richard's daughter was not married to Harrison Ford and, no, we can't get a quote from Ford . . . ."

This used to come up every few years or so.
