Does anyone want to do a Star Trek role play?

Tcsfan

You can pick what character you want to be I am going to be Dr crusher. We can creat a scenario together if yall would like. :)

There are several sites out there that support this, you may have better luck searching around for role-play, play-by-post sites. I don't think the TrekBBS is set up to support this with all the features possible.

I'm running a PbP game on another site in which the eight players are currently attempting to escape a Breen prison camp. It's been going on for a month, the character intros and setting stuff is out of the way, and it's now starting to get exciting!

Good luck, I think Star Trek RP is pretty fun.

If you wanna go for it, maybe pick or create a character from the Star Trek universe and start a scene.

If Tcsfan is paying attention, you know you already have Dr. Crusher present in the scene. Maybe create a setting in which your character and Dr. Crusher could be interacting. A hospital ward or operation room; a bar or restaurant; a play or musical recital, as possible examples.

I'd find it fun as I also tried starting something like this here before (but the character sheet system made it too technical). To STEPhon IT, generally, the context moves the scene as each poster paints the continuing story. Tcsfan could start it with a backstory or not. An example would likely be:

Tcsfan: Beverly yawns as she looks over the lab work she received from Starfleet.
bbjeg: Worf enters and says, "The Captain told me to escort this man we apprehended in a phaser fight to sickbay for a check up."
Tcsfan: As Beverly picked up her tricorder to scan the patient, he pushes her and tries to escape.
bbjeg: Using an effective Klingon technique, Worf puts the man in a grapple. "We can either do this the easy way," he says tauntingly, "or the really easy way."

The story will then continue wherever imagination takes it. I'll call Worf.

I'm a big supporter of this type of creative fun and I hope you have some fun with it. Its definitely a way to invigorate the imagination and provoke critical thinking skills. As I mentioned, I'm attempting to do some 'dice-less role play' Star Trek style on another site with eight other people, and I gotta say that the hardest thing about my role as the 'GM' is getting people to break out of traditional role-playing styles - i.e. "I want to do this, I roll this dice - now what?" Trying to get them to be proactive has been the biggest challenge!

I was into one of these things in like 1995 that ran in AOL chat rooms. (Called a 'sim' on the off chance that anyone else did it. And on the extremely low chance that anybody I did it with is here, I was LtCmdCLore.)

It's fun but it's only fun if you particularly like the group you do it with.

It was a weird time on AOL. Everyone in the sim picked screen names that included the rank of their character. But if you had a military rank in your screen name, actual military members would IM you assuming you were actually in the military because you had a military rank in your screen name.

I generally like my group, they're a buncha friggin' nerds but besides that they're pretty great people. :p

I always wondered how it's like to do those. I did it on STO on a Role-Play fleet. It is very nice. I was the Station CMO for some time, even managed to get my entire medical staff! Pity i never sow them again.

There was one time as well, wen there was a mirror universe event going on. I teamed with a Terran Vulcan to finish some evil admiral plot with the Vulcan's crew. We got transported right out before they hit us with phasers.

Yeah, those are cool histories!

Creating original characters in the/a Star Trek universe is far superior to role-playing directly as existing ones. Existing ones work better as NPCs. Better experience I imagine if it's old dirty forum text RP you want. That's the only kind of RP I'm familiar with at all.

I remember the days of IRC sims as well, and yes I did run one myself, as well as running PBEM's, taking part in others. All of which were part of a sim group.

Even did crossovers with other sims in the group, naturally some characters lasted longer than others.

Wait so normally you play a role of someone made up, but you have the existing trek characters around that kinda 'guide' the story along?

^A game master (GM) usually controls the non-played characters, who should be the thread creator or someone who can keep up with the posters.
