Does anyone like TMP uniforms?

Nah. With standard black boots instead of all-in-one booties and the red jackets as something worn over the standard TMP uniforms, they could have got half way to the TWoK look without re-designing the rank pins and department colours. Admittedly, with black boots and shoulder pads, the TMP uniforms might start to veer in the direction of Star Wars Imperial officer uniforms but I for one am willing to bow down before my Federation masters - they have better health care than the Klingons.

It seems TMP uniforms aren't liked by too many fans. Despite liking Kirk and McCoy's uniform, I myself think TMP uniforms are the worst in Trek. But I wanted to see if there was anyone who generally loves them, and if so, why. TMP uniform lovers, let your voices be heard!

There are several uniforms in Beyond that echo the TMP uniforms, just executed better.

One thing I'll say for the TMP uniforms, though, is that I appreciate that they retained the easy-to-understand rank ribbons. While I like the maroon jacket uniforms, I don't find the rank pins intuitive in the least.

They could've kept a version of the rank ribbons, and used them on the shoulder strap instead of the new ones that they went with:

Excellent call. They have a device a bit like that on the sleeves.

That's not so much militarization as specialization in TMP. Trek has always depicted Starfleet as having defense systems and security personnel, but TMP separated almost everything into their own divisions, whereas before most were combined with others.

They kept that with TWOK as well.

I'm watching TMP right now. Aside from my own affection for Kirk and Sulu's short sleeve uniforms, I just watched where Kirk first walks onto the bridge wearing his captain's stripes. YOWZA. The two piece tunic and pants are terrific.

The only TMP uniforms I don't like are the onesies. Otherwise they are a very nice extension of The Cage and Where No Man Has Gone Before.

I think Kirk's admiral's uniform is overrated.

Aligning the Captain designation with TNG's, as you have done, is a real-world anachronism, given that, when TWOK was released, TNG wouldn't come out for five more years. If they had done anything like what you're proposing, it's far more likely that they would have gone with 2 1/2 stripes, instead of 4 as you've gone with.
