Does anyone like "That Which Survives"?

I just fell asleep watching this episode and I was wondering if it had the same effect on anyone else. It feels very long and suprisingly uneventful, Spock is really annoying, and it manages to make Lee Meriwether look less attractive than she was.

That said, it's not a horrible episode. Just a little dull and plodding. Anyone love it, or like it? Just wondering.

I enjoyed it as a child, well enough. I haven't gotten to it yet in my 3rd Season DVDs. I'll let you know.

Yes, I basically like this story. I only wish they'd had a bit more money to dress to show it off more, It's a good sf idea that needed a little more window dressing.

And I really liked the Spock and Scotty working relationship.

Not one of my favorites, but one I don't mind watching. And like you, I enjoyed the Spock/Scotty interaction. I always felt like the characters worked well together. It's a shame we didn't have time to see more of that during the three seasons.

A guilty pleasure. Enjoyed the cast, Lt RADA and Mr. D'amato (please excuse the spelling). You just have to over look the logic gaps. The only way the computer could defend its self is to program a simulation to kill one person at a time with a touch? The computer is so exposed as to be destroyed with a phaser blast in a room that anyone can just walk in to?

Still it was fun, and Lee Meriwether is GRRRRRRR

Not bad. I like the Enterprise-out-of-control subplot and Scotty working in the crawlspace. The way Losira "flipped out" and disappeared, combined with the eerie music, really creeped me out as a kid.

It's third season, has plenty of plotholes, but honestly I still like it and it's a third season ep I'll watch and not turn off.

As others have stated the 'warp 14 save the Enterprise before she blows' is fun.

I loved this show when I first saw it as a kid so it's still a guilty pleasure today. Stranded on the planet with Losira popping in and out trying to kill people. The special effects of her coming and going. The irony of Kirk NOT wanting to be touched by this particular woman!! The Spock/Scotty banter. If "Tholian Web" was the Spock/McCoy episode of year3 then "That Which Survives" was the Spock/Scotty episode. Spock is the scientific theoretical engineer and Scotty is the practical hands-on engineer. This was shown over and over again in "Naked Time" and STTMP.

Spock's overcompensating Vulcanness (especially with Uhura and the guessing comment) is nothing but his normal way of dealing with any concern about the captain's fate. We saw this in "Tholain Web" where Spock berates McCoy for attending the funeral services for Kirk, Spock putting up his Vulcan guard with McCoy in the famous jail scene from "bread and Circuses," Spock in his conversation with Uhura in "The Man Trap," and Spock giving Uhura a hard time again in "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth."

The technobabble is a little heavy in this episode but that turned out to be par for the course in later Trek series.

Not a bad episode at all, although Spock inexplicably acts like a supercilious sarcastic a-hole throughout. This is one of those that is really engaging the first time you watch it but that doesn't contain a lot of rewatchability as many of the better episodes do.
One thing I really like about this one is that one of those nameless redshirts, who usually get killed off in the first act of an episode, saves the day at the end of this one!

the fun , creepy factor plus the scotty and spock interaction over comes even today the plot holes for me.

I enjoy, not in my top 5 mind you, but a solid episode. Still love the whole nacelle scene with Scotty trying to reverese the engine polarity.

The visual recording Losira left behind is still just as moving as it was when I first saw the episode.

Same here.

I always thought this was a solid SF story. I found nothing wrong with Spock's behavior. It's his revenge for having to put up with these illogical humans.

People complain how they sometimes make fun of Spock and stuff. Well he gives as good as he gets. In "Patterns Of Force" d'you think he really doesn't know the "Broadside of a barn' expression as he's standing on Kirk's freshly whipped back?

Hmmm...I was not aware that there was negative feelings towards this one. I actually really like this one. As a kid I really liked the "door opening and closing" concept. It is interesting to have the cast on the planet trying to stay safe. I especially love Losira's speech at the end. Overall, a very good episode IMHO.

I'm from Wiinpeg and we had a big blizzard the first day i saw this one, back in early November of 1986.
So it still has that cozy feel because we were stuck in the house on a Saturday afternoon watching it.
Also the sound effect of Losira disappearing is so eerie!
