Re: does anyone else feel too old for sarah jane but can't help but wa
SJA is lightyears more mature than anything you can watch on Disney Channel.
Yeah, I don't understand why people are dismissing this show as being too "juvenile". OK, so it's not a post-watershed show like Torchwood with sex and bad words, and maybe it doesn't hit the same level of complexity as DW, but it's still a more mature show than people give it credit for. Just watch "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane" from Season 1 if you don't believe me. And I agree, the show does not talk down to its viewers in any way.
Something to bear in mind - one of the main writers on the show is also responsible for assisting RTD in crafting The Waters of Mars. Nuff said.
I'm 40 and I enjoy SJA as much as I enjoy TW and DW. Do I think it's a superior show to those two? Not really. But I don't turn my nose up at it, either. Similarly, I'm not planning to go all elitist on the new K-9 series when we eventually see it, too; it'll stand or fall on its own merits. Remember that for years Doctor Who itself was -- and for some people still is -- considered a show for children. In that regard it is on the same keel as Sarah Jane. Rani, Luke, and Clive are of the same age, more or less, as Susan Foreman, Zoe, Vicki and Victoria were when they were companions. Matt Smith could just as easily be travelling with a 12 year old it would still be in keeping with the show's concept.
And add to that the fact I'm of the generation that remembers Sarah Jane when she was travelling with Tom Baker, and that adds to the appeal.
