Does anyone else feel old, that we are now 20 yrs past All Good Things

junkdata

Lieutenant Commander
Only 5 short years away from the (old) crew, in their future incarnations, in the show?

As Im sure everyone will remember, that was 25 years in the future. Well we are now "20 years in the future" from our "contemporary section" handle on that episode.

I dont want to get in trouble for posting pictures that are not allowed, but I wonder how the crew stacks up irl, compared to their made up series counter parts of the "future"?

Picard basically doesn't age of course (!), but how weird that we are now approaching the other end of that episode in our time.

Not old, but I am surprised at the passage of time itself. 20 years ago, I was waiting eagerly to watch the final episode of TNG, and was looking forward to all I had read about Generations. It does feel like a lifetime ago, but the memories are pleasant, so it's okay.

I don't have pictures handy, but it seems that Levar Burton/Geordi was the one they nailed the closest..

The brilliance of TNG was that it dealt, almost exclusively, with The Human Condition. As a result, a surprising amount of episodes not only stand up in these times, but actually continue to be relevant.

The look of the show gets dated, particularly when it comes to fashion and hairstyles, straight out of the 80's. But because of the passage of time, also, no STAR TREK is going to look like that again. It's not going to be shot the same way, and so forth. TOS doesn't look like it's happening anywhere on Earth, its ... beyond mythical.

And even though TNG tries a little harder to be more believable, the fact that its from another Era helps sell the fantastic elements, maybe, a little more than it might've at the time. A time before 9/11, before the Internet or mobile phones ... it almost doesn't seem real. The passing of time helps, more than hurts, this particular series, it seems like.

I feel old 'cause I am (68). Still, it seems impossible that AGT is 20 years in the past. I don't think I'll get tired of Trek in my lifetime.

I was 24 then, so yes.

Mutai Sho-Rin and I are both at the seniors' buffet breakfast (I'm 63), so "All Good Things..." has nothing to do with making me feel old.

But I think it's the best finale episode so far, because of how well it bookends "Encounter at Farpoint".

A lot has happened in those 20 years for me personally and it was a very different life at that time, but I still don't feel old yet. I just feel lucky that I was able to enjoy the show as it aired and grow up with it during those 7 seasons, all capped by my favorite finale.

I remember it vividly, I was 12 at the time, it was an amazing time to be a Star Trek fan, the franchise seemed to be at the very top of its pop-cultural significance, TNG's ending was being widely publicized as well as the upcoming movie, it was exciting! :D I can't believe its been 20 years now. Which also means, it's nearly been 20 years since Kirk had that bridge dropped on him...

I remember watching that episode when it originally aired, and it is the only TNG episode I am completely sure has that distinction (there probably is another but I was so young I couldn't tell new episodes from syndicated). My dad had a date that night, and I remember him getting me a pizza and telling me he'd read the final TNG episode would be airing that night. Can't believe it was so long ago!

I remember having a satellite dish at that time and getting it off Paramount's feed early in the morning before school. It hasn't gone out on any TV stations yet, but I had seen it.

It was a long day of trying not to spoil it for other Star Trek fans in high school, but dropping hints...like the cloaked Enterprise and the warp 13 bits. And the giant phaser cannon that can punch through Klingons like there are nothing.
