Re: Does Abrams have in mind a sequel that is a real 'Part 2
One of the few I can think of was the "Organian Peace Treaty" remark in Tribbles was directly attributable to Errand of Mercy -- however, this was more of an off-hand reference than a carried-over plot point, so that doesn't count. I'm also not counting The Cage and The Megagerie since The Cage was never seen by the public until the 1980s.
I'm talking about actual 'plots', not the show's premise. Obvious the premise and character development will carry from film-to-film or episode-to-episode.
As opposed to Star Trek II (with regards to TMP), V, VI, VII, plus virtually all 78 stories in TOS. The plots of TOS TV very rarely referred to events in past episodes.Plum said:

I understand it would normally be too early to be talking sequels, but I wonder if Abrams will intentionally leave Star Trek XI so open-ended that this film and its sequel, Star Trek XII, will be essentially Parts 1 and 2 of a single story?
As opposed to WHAT other Star Trek episode or film? So... uh, duh!
