Dodgy Airlines

Scariest moment: I was flying from Boston to Atlanta on business and booked a flight on the late Piedmont Airlines. I get to Boston's Logan Airport in the midst of a blizzard and find out every airline had shut down operations due to the weather.

Except Piedmont.

Half the passengers (maybe more) refused to board. I figured what the hell and got on. Then I found out we were going to be taking off on that infamous runway that's built on a jetty extending into the bay. So pretty soon we're hurtling down this runway with water on both sides, in a blinding snowstorm and the plane is sliding from left to right and back on the runway. I had two doubles from the drink cart after that takeoff.

Best flight? Another on of those "we need the plane" stories. There were four of us on an Alaskan Airlines from San Diego to Portland. I was the only one not in First Class. After we took off the attendent parked the drink cart next to my seat and told me to help myself whenever I felt like it. Four hours of open bar later I was glad my wife was picking me up at the airport.

Sounds like you had good reason to get wasted on the first occasion... I have to admire the balls to board in the first place! I'll bet your wife wasn't happy on the second time around though...

I remember that in heathrow terminal 1, during the winter season, they have a cocktail demonstration out of one of the liquer shops... I remember an occasion I flew from there, during which I got chatting to the mixer, and he ended up preparing two large martinis and a mojito for me as we chatted about all and sundry - both of excellent quality spirits, prepared at leisure by an expert (I think he was bored standing there all by himself)... I couldn't resist offer of seconds, and I think he enjoyed having me walk away a little unsteadily after that... thankfully, I was partially sober by the time my friend picked me up at the other end... but she wouldn't have been best pleased if I had arrived three sheets to the wind!

Man, I think I'd be downing a few shots after that too!
