If you come to this thread, do not complain about spoilers if you have already missed episodes thus far, the warning is in the title..
I have been a bit put off lately by the new series. I mean, I get that we are trying to transition Clara off the program and I guess give her a legacy, and so on.. But it just seems like this whole entire season is focused on Clara and Danny getting together, with some sci fi stuff rolled in, even forced there to make some relevancy like Orson Pink from the future and almost a rehash of the Amy/Rory romance, (here we go with a childhood of Danny pink a sorta reverse of Amy Pond) which honestly feels superficial with Clara and Danny.. the jealous factor with the Doctor and Clara was a bit funny, but then it was more about I suppose Danny being good enough.. there was a whole touch on class in there (which reminded me of red dwarf a bit), and I was half expecting racism to become a focus too, since that is apparently where everyone goes these days as a knee jerk topic. If you don't think so, then just look at the media.. more so in Britain is it usually Muslim/Arabic decent Playing the victims rather than the Media Driven White on Black scenarios here in the states. Political BS drama aside...
By the way on that subject. I really applaud the fellow board members here. You guys are unlike others on different boards, who if you complain in the slightest about the whole Clara/Danny romance on a purely legit level, get instantly labeled a racist/sexist/homophobic (if you happen to be a heterosexual white guy), which is not the intent. We clearly have a more intelligent pool of fans here who can read, and actually comprehend what someone else says.. (not mentioning the other sites, but they are clearly overly sensitive and completely hyped up about such issues, and Include Doctor Who, or Gallifrey in their title website names)
Anyhow, coming from the perspective of the viewer, and witnessing the whole "heaven scenario" I am confused as to how this is relevant, and quite frankly find the references to heaven weird, and not really as intriguing as other story arc hints, like the compelling Big Bang, or the Trenzalore set up.. Probably the best story arc references were during the Donna Noble era, with hints of Rose tyler coming in off and on.. I loved when you saw her calling the doctor on the viewer in the episode Midnight. I was extremely excited to see that, and made me long for the next episode. Here.. I am more apt to be like... okay.. meh..
can't wait I guess..If nothing else, just want to see what this whole "heaven" as a real realm thing is all about.
Honestly, I like Capaldi.. But this season thus far, has been kinda lack luster to me.. I have not had the same level of "NEED TO KNOW!" what happens next as I have with previous series..
Please don't hate, this is just my opinion, and I would love to hear yours.
Episode Favs thus far:
Into the Dalek
Time Heist
Wasn't a bad episode the premiere, but not that compelling to me.. a rehash of the Madame de pompadour..A dinosaur in London? Really? are we going for shock and awe, pulling out all the stops to make it seem flashy?? I think there's a time and place for producers to also regenerate.. I just hope when and If Moffat decides to release the reigns on the show, we get something akin to RTD, and Moffat in a new inspired direction...Still any of these episodes beats the last years of the classic series..from the 6th Doctor on.
