Warner has announced plans to bring the BBC original TV movie “Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead” to Blu-ray Disc on July 28th. This was the first of any of the “Doctor Who” shows or films to be shot in Hi-Def as the trade ad proudly touts. The TV movie will also be airing on BBC America here stateside as the trade ad mentions. Bonus materials are set to include a 60 minute featurette entitled “Doctor Who: Confidential“. No word yet on technical specs or an Amazon pre-order listing but stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated as soon as more information and such becomes available.

It's also being released on DVD at the same time, as noted on DVDActive:

Can we assume that this individual release will be akin to the "vanilla" releases of the regular series episodes, since the only bonus is a Confidential episode? I expect the extra bonus stuff (like a commentary) will appear later down the road when all the specials are (one would hope) collected together?
