Doctor Who night on Craig Ferguson Late Tue/Early Wed

Craig Ferguson was already one of my favorites in the late night arena... but this Leaked Dance number of his just crowned him king.

Intellect & Romance! over Brute Force & Cynicism. FTW

Wow, first Matt Smith, now Alex Kingston. And I just saw "Doctor Stew" on youtube. I guess Doctor Who is starting to get popular in America.

Which also means Matt Smith will get another appearance on the show, since he appears in the skit.

I wonder if they'll show the specially shot BBC America teaser?
Have you watched Craig Ferguson's show? He's far more likely to quiz Kingston on a by-election in Burley-Upon-Thames, a subject neither one would be qualified to discuss, than he is to talk Doctor Who with her. :)

Except for a bit where he flustered her about sex toys, Craig Ferguson stayed nicely on topic in talking Doctor Who with Kingston.

Who grew up watching Pertwee. :)

They played the "It's a fez, I wear a fez now, fezzes are cool" clip as Kingston's intro. That was surprising, as they hadn't played any Who clips for Smith.

Ferguson even asked her who River was. And Kingston got to say "Spoilers," though without the snarky tone that River Song has.

Haven't watch Alex Kingston, yet, but its been DVR'ed.

But I gotta correct ya, Allyn, 'cause they used a clip from 'The Vampires of Venice' for Matt Smith -

Now that you've said it... no, I've not gone to YouTube to confirm... was it the "Tell me your whole plan" "Oh, this is Christmas" bit, with the vampires in the crypt? It is bringing back memories...

Kingston was great and the whole rabbits business was just hilarious - considering some of the more risque roles she's played, it was adorable to see her get flustered. A friend just sent me an e-mail saying he wants to marry her!

There was other Doctor Who content tossed in here and there. The cold open finally got played, though out of context it probably didn't mean a lot to viewers (but hey we got to see Matt on American TV again). Playing the fez-shooting clip gave us a chance to see Karen and Arthur on American network TV for the first time. And Ferguson's dead-on explanation of why Doctor Who is so popular (romance and intellect vs. brute force and cynicism) became a running gag that he tied into discussion of Snooki's new novel. (And that's one of the most horrifying pieces of news I've heard all day - I haven't been bothered to check, but part of me hopes that was just a joke.). During the Twitter segment, Ferguson makes a joke out of his promoting a non-CBS show by telling someone NOT to watch Doctor Who because it's not on CBS.

But if you want the ultimate in fanboy trivia, the show's other guest, CSI New York's Gary Sinese, has a Doctor Who connection, too. According to Shannon Sullivan's Brief History of Time Travel website, Sinese was one of the many American actors considered for the role of the Eighth Doctor when the 1996 TV movie was in pre-production! I think he might have been a candidate for the Master as well...

Alex
