Doctor Who is better than BSG

Isn't everything based on your own personal preference by nature biased?

Certainly. But, to approach an objective debate over the superior merits of one subject compared to another, you need more than what you "personally feel". Stating something is "bad" does not make a point. Examining details of the two subjects, and then finding a comparable middle ground (i.e. some facet they have in common that allows a comparison to be grounded on equal terms) from which to platform your argument....that's how you determine whether something is "better" than something else.

Otherwise, it's all just Fanboys running around going "Worst. Episode. Ev-ar."

But if you're simply stating which show you have a preference for, or which you rank more highly than the other then you're inherently being biased, and the only thing you have to take in to account is the show for which you're more excited by/happy with/rewatch more/etc...
If you're trying to have an objective debate about quality and artistic value, then good luck finding a common ground to start with.

Certainly. But it's one thing to say "I don't like BSG", and another to say "BSG is better than Doctor Who". Both are steeped in mere opinion. However, one is simply a statment of personal stance, and the other is a statement of definition. I'll accept if someone doesn't like BSG. However, you want to convince me that something is better than the other, you better bring more than "the characters suck" or somesuch. That's all I'm trying to say. ;)

Exactly my point! Exactly. :techman:

So we agree to ... er agree then?

Doctor Who has likable characters. Battlestar Galactica should be renamed "Assholes In Space" because every character is an unlikable asshole. It's like they were all at an Asshole Convention when The Cylons hit and all the good humans were the ones who got killed so only the assholes lived.

That's a good parody of the stereotypical internet geek who is out of touch with reality.

Oh, wait...

The problem with these discussions is they get incredibly boring incredibly fast. Eventually either the thread has to be closed or people will end up agreeing to disagree, using vast paragrahs saying a lot but reaching no conclusion.

A person who hates one show and likes the other is going to be biased.
A person who love both shows equally is useless.
A person who hates both shows but loves Big Brother just has no taste.*

*That last one may or may not be a fact.

Oh, for the love of Gods, Hera is not an asshole.

And Cottle is a lovable asshole, the old-school cuddly grumpy curmudgeon kind of way. Ed Asner in space!

Doctor Who is a family adventure show. BSG is a drama series.

The two really aren't comparable.
so we cant compare BSG to Sarah Jane Adventures either?

I love the scene where Luke blows K9 out of the airlock

Wait till Sarah Jane finds out via mind-link. Then you'll see what freakish upper-body strength she has.
